Quick rant.
Rent and sale prices are fucking stupid right now. I have been looking for either renting or buying for the last few months and this is just ridiculous.

My current lease is up at the end of the year with no option to renew. Landlord's granddaughter wants the place, so I have to make a decision soon.

I know man thats why i bought a house an hour away from the bay. Its ridiculous what my friends pay for rent in the bay. If trump becomes president for sure the market will crash again so save your money and make sure u work at a supply and demand type if job.

Prices are high but unless rates go up drastically you'll probably end up pricing yourself out of the market if you wait on buying. The market will go up and down but a large bubble that we had back in 05-06 is probably not gonna happen again...

Shit I already see people taking a home equity line out on their homes...... Just another group falling into the trap. I doubt home prices will drop as low as they did a few years ago. But I see the housing market having a correction in the next 5 years or so.

Crazy what the Bay Area housing prices are. My wife's grandma rents her house in Daly City for 4500 a month.

yeah i see it a lot. ppl are renting their 2nd level in DC for 3200-3500 and thats typically a 3/2 about 1300sqft. LOL. lower level inlaw rent for 2k. pretty damn insane.

To be fair the average pay/income is also significantly lower out there but the overall cost of living is lower too

The only thing i missed about the bay is that everything that u need is near by. But what i dont missed how crowed it is and traffic up the ass most of the day.

Google, Facebook ect are driving the bay area economy out of this world. Local people who were born and raised in the area are selling their homes and those top payed recruited from abroad engineers making $100-$200 G's a year are buying them out if not the Chinese who are coming over from China over bidding on properties for sale.

I work in the industry, most people I know are making north of 140k and are still having a hard time buying at these prices. Engineers are starting to be priced out of the market due to overseas investors.
A couple of senior engineers that work for me, make $160k and have to be roommates to live in decent sized place in SF. I think their rent is $5500 a month.
Me personally, I live in Livermore and commute 80 minutes each way to SF just to have A) space and B) at a somewhat reasonable price.
