No car insurance, mobile phone, cable tv or sat.,?
$700 on food AND gas? If you eat roman and drive a moped.
Property tax?
$300 on utilites? Like water, gas, electric, garbage? I don't know about $300!
If you are single on 36k then maybe
i dont know where you live but that 1450 includes property tax at 200k,,,,, i feed 4 people on 600 a month and we eat out/good food...our utils are actually a tad cheaper net comcast ect...

I wouldn't call 65k straight poverty BUT it's now an assload of money and goddamn! Feeding 4 on $600 a month is that just on food? Or is $600 what u bring in on a regular month cuz if so I'll pay you to show me the light cuz I make more then that and find myself broke quite often. I agree. Yes, WHO you know sometimes comes in handier than WHAT you know...BUT, if you're like a lot of other people searching for a job without an internal hookup, you definitely have a better chance with a college degree than without one

Its hard to imagine it on that budget but I started thinkin. I do a bunch of extra stuff that most probably dont do. I put into 401k and 403b, I put tons aways for each of my kids education (4 of the 5 are already paid for ). Plus I have teenagers. You might be feeding 2 adults and 2 little kids.
But as stated get an education. I also read somewhere that college educated (read degree obtained) folks will see on average up to a million more dollars in their lifetime.

But it is a very good career and a very future promising one. With all the dependancy on webapps, mobile device apps and the fusion of TV and Web I stay busy with new things to learn and apply. And truth be told you really do not need a degree to get in the door. You just need demonstrated know-how.
I'm also a programmer by day and poker player by night. Talking about salary, as someone commented on earlier, is a little bit of a taboo.
However, the average salary of most Developers/DBAs/Business Intel Engineers/Data Analysts.. etc. are definitely in this range or higher.
And yes, in the data/software fields, it is possible to get into the door without a B.S... However, it's a little harder than those with B.S. and M.S. degrees.
Edit: BTW, I get taxed out the a$$ on my daytime salary. I need to find some dependents or something. LOL [ January 05, 2010, 07:10 PM: Message edited by: Tha91SiCkNeSs ]

Construction Management is where it is at. I make well over 60K a year. Construction management is going to turnover (retirement of owners and experienced PM's PE's) in the next 3 years. Now is the time to get in. As many people have said, its not what you know but who you know. [ January 05, 2010, 07:24 PM: Message edited by: GOT 50 ]

in order to make $3000/month take home, you need a salary north of $5000/month, or about $60k, taxes and health insurance are a bitch...

I get taxed out the ass, I have zero dependents and make pretty good money, my health is setup weird, it's taken out of my check but placed into a health savings account for me which I can only use to pay for health related things like co-pays and prescriptions. I'd rather have the $350/month...

Scumbag banker here for over 7 years. It takes time to put yourself in the position to make a good buck. You just have to know what your good at before you can make dough and enjoy it. Whatever field you plan on getting in on, your going to have to put in countless hours becoming successful. Its not an overnight thing, they say you have to put in over 10,000 hours to master a particular field to be truly great at what you do. Regardless of your talent, its the work you put in to be a true professional in any field you choose.
