are you talking 500hp at the flywheel or at the tires?

Put PI heads on your 97, if you don't have them already, and get a Kenne Bell 1.7 and you will have very close to 500HP at the flywheel.

putting p.i heads on a 97 gt and adding a blower is not a good idea. the compression is gonna up to 10: something and thats not good for blower.the engine will probably blow up..

i''m looking for 500+ at the wheels....my plan is to definetly go with the KB 1.7L...now what if i throw on PI heads and intake...or a bullit intake with low conpression pistons...and a cobra krank...and a KB 14 PSI pully on the 1.7...will that work?...along with a 255lph in tank fuel pump..does the KB come with 42lbs/hr injectors?...hopefully it does...and with all that will my 97 push 500rwhp?...i'm also goin to have 3"73...C%L CAI, and i want a powerfull...strong clutch...mine right now is still perfect....whats a good clutch for my 97 even without the blower and then with the blower?...i'm goin to APex for the tuning and stufff and for the clutch installation....and if they do internals then also the crank and pistons...and the blower will be done here at home...so let me know if all these things will work out or if u suggest something else in addition to what i have listed or if u want to include something...thanks guys...

This is what I would do since you want to replace the pistons....

#1-Get a built CHP 5.1L Stroker short block
#2-Get some nice heads
#3-Dump the C&L and get a Lightining, SCT, OR Pro-M MAF
#4-Slap on the 1.7L Kenne Bell
#4-Get a new Kevlar clutch
#5-Get a nice tune

This combo should give you a RELIABLE 500RWHP and show be drivable like a normal car. We have this EXACT combo going into a car.

The problem is your stock block with the PI heads will have a high compression ratio, which is NOT optimum for high-levels of boost. 500RWHP is alot to get out of a 4.6 and will not be cheap to do right. If you want to do it cheap just do a PI swap and get like a 200 Shot of Nitrous and you still WILL NOT get 500RWHP...

You can keep your stock block but you still have to buy the kit and have your block machined. Give HCI or CDT a call about the machining costs and they should be able to give you an idea of what a kit for a 4.6 would costs to make it capable of 500RWHP. Everyone wants 500RWHP BUT are you also going to beef up your suspension, chasis, clutch and brakes to support the engine? If you are going to dump all the money into the engine with out making the other necessary upgrades you are wasting your money. Do your brakes, chasis, and suspension first.. do the engine LAST.

This may sound like stupid question, but why is it that people put lower compression pistons in a blown motor? It doesn't make any sense to me to lower the compression and then boost it? What is the point and why is this nessecary?

thats not always the case, for a reliable daily driven capable car you need to lower compression for high boost. straight drag cars use high compression with o-ringed block and heads with wire lock head gaskets. but like i said you need a very strong bottom end.

Heres another way to get 500rwhp. Built short block, Patriot stage II heads, Custom or Comp cams, plus all the standard boltons , exhaust and that should get you around 310rwhp or so. Then put a 200shot to that. But like said before, there are alot of other things to upgrade to be able to support that. Maf, injectors, tune fuel pump etc... the list just goes on and on. You will spend alot of money to get the car to the 500rwhp and to be able to support that HP. It will cost you more then what your car is worth.

Because you will have problems with detonation with ~10:1 compression and a reasonable amount of boost unless you have something to prevent that, like race gas, or water/meth injection.

You can buy complete 03-04 cobra motors with blower and computer for around 8g now. It's WAYYYYY more reliable, and has enough power on tap to make your balls tingle.

Why not just run standard pistons and turn the blower less? Run a bigger pulley, less slipage.

Thats what I did... and I somewhat kick myself for it, spent too much money, Im over 20K deep in mods (some of that because I got screwed on parts, or something broke etc) It just isn't cost effective to mod the 4.6 GTs and try to get LOTS of HP out of them without blowing your cash for several years.

So you want to more than double your horsepower that you currently have in your 97? Are you doing that because you want to get a certain time/trap speed at the track, or because you want that magical dyno sheet with the big 500 on it?

This might help people give you some better advice.

i agree. i mean if you're looking for some 1/4 mile time then there's a lot of other things that can help you achieve your goal in addition to a powerful motor. if you're looking for 500rwhp n/a, it won't happen without a lot of though. if you're gonna get blown then that's another story. my suggestion, get a built block from someone like mph, vt, etc. or go local with hci and blow the hell out of it.

Port match your heads? What would you be port matching them to? You need either ported pi heads (then you will have to worry about dropping compression), or the expensive frpp heads. I ran into this problem with my 97GT......so I bought a trans am.

Oh and I would go with what works. Forged pistons, rods stock crank. Stock heads. Blower grind cams. Stock intake. Novi 2000. 17 Lbs of boost, tuned on pump should be MUCH over 500rwhp. [patriot]
