I can run almost 5 minute miles on a treadmill but when i trail run i can only run 9s. Treadmills are too easy and you don't really know if you are running a mile machine could be bsing you.
False
No way you're cutting 4min off of your mile time by switching to treadmill

Average at 7:45 throughout a 4 mile jog. Gonna have to time myself for quickest mile, now that the subject is up.

Its easy just set the speed to it and run. No hills, or steep inclines, muddy trails or obosticals in your way, machine keeps you on pace. [ April 03, 2012, 10:05 AM: Message edited by: WildFire532FB ]

Fastest mile was in high school at 5:14 when I was I shape because of soccer. Now, I could probably run it in 7-8. Started running again to get back into shape. Looking to break into the 5's again.... [ April 03, 2012, 11:13 AM: Message edited by: 1RaReSnAkE ]

Track running has to be the worst. Same scenery, running in a circle, that sucks. At least the treadmill you can watch tv.
Trail running is where it's at. [ April 03, 2012, 01:13 PM: Message edited by: WildFire532FB ]

Getting under that 18:00 back in the day was easy. Wish I could still do it now.

I thought this thread was going to be about fastest mile in a car..oh well. My PRs back in high school/college:
HS: 4:07 Mile 9:10 Two Mile 1:56 Half Mile
College: 3:54 1500 Meters 14:53 5000 Meters
Nowadays I just stick to road coarse 10Ks and half marathons...
But back to the OP questions:). If you are just starting out then you should drastically see your mile time go down as you get into shape. The walking part is what is slowing you down. If you can run the entire mile without resorting to walking you right away may cut 3 minutes off your time. I don't care how slow you have to go on the run..just don't walk. The goal would be to get into shape first and then worry about time/measurements later. As soon as you can go that first mile without walking start running longer..add about 10-15% more distance per week...and if your feeling pain slow down or take a day off.

Well put. Thank you. I did less walking yesterday and cut 3 mins off. But yeah. Deffinitely need to be in shape first.

This is great advice. I am looking to start training for some half marathons sometime soon and this is the advice being given to me. I absolutely hate running unless its playing hoop.

Just posted a 9.45 mile. Ran consistently at 6 mph. Then with .20 left of the mile I increased to 8 mph to finish it. Ran the entire mile. Yay me. Lol.

Atleast it's exercise. More than some people do. I'm not trying to run the streets of vallejo, lol. Plus running on concrete is so bad for your joints. And the wildlife running, well, there's none of that around here. So I'll stick to my fake treadmill miles and continue to lose weight like I have been.
