$199 for the 16g and $299 for the 32g... the 3G-S will be $99. I heard that if you go with the new 4g you can expect your bill to increase another $15-25 a month due to some of the new technology..
Either way, I am right behind you on ordering it... I thought it wasn't going to be available until the 24th... I am excited!

^ If you have a current smart phone plan then you can keep that dAta plan but if you don't have a current smartphone plan then They have a 2 megabyte plan for $15 or 2 gigabyte plan for $25 if you go over it's like $10 more for either but I guess I don't have to worry about this because of the current unlimited plan i'm on now can't wait for it;-D

I'm a sucker for new tech but the wireless price gouging is getting too far. Consumers are going brain dead wanting the new iphone (which looks to be awesome) and don't realize AT&T is ripping them off.
AT&T just restructured their data plans and it coincidently happens on th same day of Iphone announcement. They got rid of their $30 dollar unlimited plan and are tiering it 2GB for $25 dollars and $15 for 200MB of data. Iphones especially are portable media devices and 2gb is nowhere near enough for streaming or tethering. On top of that The "new technology" and "4g speeds" is not exactly new and they've had the technology for quite some time now.
I am sure Verizon and the other major carriers will eventually follow suit. The early release and the early upgrade "hookup" is merely the bait to reel you in. In the coming months Verizon will use the upcoming Android lineup and do the same thing. The only way around this is to pay full price for the iphone and grandfather your current 30 unlimited data plan.

I too have the unlimited data plan right now, but are you saying that if I upgrade to the new iPhone 4 I will have to agree to the new tiered system or pay full price to be grandfathered in?
I call if that is the case!
Edit: I just read this article on the true cost of purchasing and owning an iPhone or any smartphone for that matter... here is the link
http://www.notebooks.com/2010/06/07/iphone-4-cost/
From what I read those who already have an iPhone unlimited data plan and want to upgrade will be able to keep that unlimited data plan. [ June 08, 2010, 05:28 AM: Message edited by: rgtrahn ]

I read somewhere that there will be an additional surcharge on top of the data plan/ text messaging/ voice plan for the new iPhone 4... I guess we will all have to wait and see.

anyone know what the out of contract price is? if its about $600 may be worth it to sell your 3gs for about 300 and skip even restarting a contract cuz if you're like me, u cant wait to get out of AT&T's crappy network.

okay lets see a comparison i guess depending on what is more important to you, i can see one going with either phone.
strictly looking at specs, iphone has a high res screen, 3x the apps, has more standard internal memory, longer battery life and thinnest profile of all smart phones. while evo has a larger display, upgradable memory, high res camera, is on a superior network to at&t and is also cheaper.
i think within the next 2 years with the android app market growing the iphone will have less of an advantage over other phones since most smart phone manufacturers can compete in terms of hardware. the biggest selling point for me w/ the iphone has been the apps but that is becoming less of an advantage.
display evo 4.3inches(480x800) iphone4 3.5inches(960x640)
cpu evo: 1ghz(512 ram) iphone4: apple a4 chip 1ghz, hi speed and battery saving
ports evo: usb 2.0 micro usb port iphone4: std iphone/ipad jack
storage evo: 1gb internal + microsd slot iphone4: up to 32gb internal storage
os evo: android iphone4: ios4
battery evo: removable 146hr standby time iphone4: internal 300hr standby time
cam evo: 8mp rear/1.3mp front iphone: 4 5mp rear/has front camera
connectivity evo and iphone4: wifi, bluetooth
apps evo: 70k iphone4: 215k
carriers evo: sprint-nextel iphone4: at&t
price evo: 200 iphone4: 300 both w/ 2 year contracts

Im going evo...From a app developer standpoint the SDK for android is soooo much better IMO. I'd rather develop for Android. But....the gyroscope thing in the new iphone and some of the enhancements are tasty. I say droid catches up quickly on apps. I hopefully can grab a evo this weekend. I absolutely hate AT&T plus AT&T has 4g. But it is not really offered in Stockton yet, plus I heard 4g drains battery a bit more.

I didn't get the impression that they changed the grand fathering policy from that link. In any case, in the past the only way to keep your current plan is to buy the phone at full retail price. All "upgrade" pricing came with a contract renewal and since they don't offer the unlimited plan anymore, you get stuck with the new 25 dollar plan.
There are people out there such as myself who still have true unlimited data plans (even todays unlimited data plans are capped around 25GBs) and 7pm to 7am offpeak. The moment I buy any handset at a promotion price, I lose my old plan.

Android is a more robust and capable operating system. Off the top of my head Android allows for true multi tasking that is similar to computing, multiple live updates on multiple screens, and flash support (this could be just a Steve Jobs thing) But Apple will market well, throw accessories galore at the consumer, and somehow brainwash people into thinking Iphone 4 OS is a breakthrough in technology.

These are things that 90% of phone buyers don't care about and that's who Apple is catering to. There are some fantastic Android phones out there and I'm actually jealous of most of their features. But, Google's big mistake is not setting any standards for manufacturers. The differing screen resolutions, different button configurations, different connectors and some manufacturers are even putting their own software on top of the Android OS. This is a problem for developers, accessory makers and buyers. For example, I have the exact same iPhone car stereo integration kit that I used since my gen 1 iPhone. And, I'm not just talking about using the headphone jack to play music, I get full iPod control and phone functionality through my car stereo with no dangly wires all over the place. And, with each new iPhone purchase, I don't have to keep buying a new integration kit like I would with Android phones from varoius manufacturers. I'm not sure if I'll be buying the iPhone 4, but if I do, I'm 100% certain that all my accessories (car kits, chargers, connectors, cables, etc) won't have to be re-purchased. And, that's very important to me

Actually, what you state as a mistake is actually a strength. And everyone wants multi-tasking. Your phone is not smart if you cannot do that. The android is a much more capable os. I like Iphone too, but it seems to trip over itself in terms of simple things.

Evo ftw...yesterday Steve Jobs tried show many of the key innovations of the iPhone4 and had serious problems during his demonstrations...also the network issues with at&t will kill any new innovations the iPhone4 has....the evo has everything the iPhone4 has with a better network, 4g, and unlimited data...Apple will come out with the iPhone4s in a few months that will probably fix the problems with the iPhone4 Steve Jobs was having and get people to buy two phones instead of taking the time to refine the iPhone4...Apple maximizing profit...

all these software features u guys speak of can easily be taken care of with a jailbreak.
multitasking, tethering, free apps, etc via jailbreak. ill enjoy the 220k apps while android plays catch-up. until that happens, ill enjoy the iphone4 and sell my 3gs jailbroken phone for 350 on ebay, which then leaves me with about 300 to make up for the out of contract price on the 16gb iphone4.

If your on the unlimited data plan and have no interest in getting a new phone anytime soon or changing your plan, does your plan still change with their new restructure or am i safe and will always have unlimited until i buy a new phone?

Jailbreaking won't solve the shortcomings of the OS itself. Multi tasking on the iphone is not 100% multitasking because of how the OS is written. Iphone OS actually pauses the unused application while you switch to another application. This is also the reason why Iphone OS4 will never be able to have multiple live updates on multiple live screens. Android has true multi tasking ability that allows all open applications to be running at one time.
Iphone OS4 will not support flash even after jailbreaking. Either Steve Jobs holds a grudge against adobe or it just can't be supported by the OS. HTML5 is up and coming but flash is widely used.
As far as apps go Iphone does have the advantage because it has been around longer. But, within the short period Android has been around it has taken that market share by storm. Any app that is of any importance already has an Android equivalent. Android is open source and the marketplace is open to all unlike Apples regulated marketplace.
Iphone 4G will be an awesome phone and it will be one of the best handsets to date. But it's OS is nowhere near that of the Android.

yes, the flash portion really sucks with any apple product since many websites are running flash but id be willing to sacrifice a bit here and there.
is your iphone jailbroken? as far as i know it when u run backgrounder the apps running in the background update so not sure about that limitation u mention.
with android, are you able to gain free access to bootleg apps or are you limited by purchasing through an apps store? obviously, i dont have an android so just curious as to what limitations u have w/ apps.
