Theres a reason why there is media hype though. Its because after the pit kills they find the owner some drug dealer messed up on coke. [ March 20, 2006, 12:33 AM: Message edited by: Cobra5.0Jeep ]

In defense of Pitts and all dogs witha bad wrap; The numbers I pointed out are of attacks. How many pitbull owners are there? Alot. Just because the dog is a pit doesn't make it s out-of-control killer. Pits are the cheapest purebred dog. So of course many people of the"lower" class will get them. Sometimes they are mistreated but most of the time, they are great dogs. We can have this same debate about owning a gun.

As a former pit owner, RIP Red Dawg, I can honestly say that my Pit was the best dog I ever owned. He wasn't the smartest, but he was the most loyal and loving. My daughter could do no wrong with him, pull his tail, accidently poke him in the eye, ride him. That being said, he was an animal and I NEVER left my daughter alone with him for any extended unsupervised time. Now that he is gone and I have two small kids, I wouldn't get another just because I couldn't guarantee having one with the same disposition. Some will say that any breed can have a bad disposition, but I've seen first hand what power these dogs have and I can't take that risk with my kids.

^^^ Very smart man here.
That was my main point is to respect the power and force these dogs have and that disposition, then go the extra step to ensure the safety of others. I believe in order to be a responsible owner of a dog such as this you have to understand that the dog is not a cocker spaniel or a lab. And make the extra concessions. The owners that love the hell out of their dogs doesnt make them a "responsible" owner when they think their dog is no different than the average lap dog, they are just a "good" owner. There is a difference, and sometimes that difference is life or death. [ March 20, 2006, 11:54 AM: Message edited by: n8y8 ]
