Does anyone have any useful information/insight into the world of older, 360 modena/gallardo vehicles, Specifically 2003-2006 model years? I know the e-gear is an item that wears fast on the gallardo and is very costly but is there anything else to look for?

My brother in law has a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo. Everything damn near is dealer only parts, and cost a fortune. Several thousand dollars for a brake job, about a thousand for an oil change.

Same reason I won't get a GTR, the maintenance and parts will kill your wallet.

I'm sticking to my Mustangs with readily available aftermarket parts for just about anything.

I heard the 360 is the next Ferrari to start getting into collector car status.

What are you looking for? status, performance, investment?

Just gathering some facts/info, looking into another high end sports car in the near future and would like to make more of an informed purchase opposed to my usual on the fly buy. The aboved mentioned are more of a long shot and would have to fall into place perfectly.

If you can afford 5k service intervals, 9k brake jobs, 12k clutch jobs ect multiple times a year then it would be cool to have.

With supercars/sports cars like this there is a rule of thumb. If you even have to ask about the maintenance of owning one, you probably shouldnt.

With that out of the way, and if money is no object, then they are good cars, they hold their value (and things like the 360 are starting to increase in value as collector car status). Unique and different.

Well out of that year range, the Ferrari 360 is probably your best bet if you can get it. Some of my silicon valley buddies drive them, and are apart of the supercar groups down there.

They swear by the cars. Very little maintenance needed, rock solid reliability even after beating on them ect.

The Gallardos, which I am not familiar with as I know no one who owns one, seem to be a bit more finicky from reading the lambo forums.

Either way any of them will be fucking badass.

Just texted a buddy, he said the only thing to look out for would be when the belt service was done, and if there is any noise coming from the butterfly valves on the intake.

The 360 99-04 range is getting affordable as well, I have been putting aside for something nice for a while, Hopefully in the next year I will find a suitable vehicle. I appreciate everyones suggestions, thanks

A member who doesnt post much here anymore (90gtvert) was looking at buying a used supercar. Don't know if he ever did but you can try and PM him.

I only know one person with early 98 355 vert. He said the top would cost him thousands to fix if it ever breaks....... so he only uses it like once a year LOL.

I own a 04 Gallardo, 01 360 and '10 GTR. I enjoy the GTR mostly because of the acceleration/attention. I actually get more thumbs up in the GTR, don't know if I don't notice in the Lamborghini but you can never go wrong with a GTR, after 09 the transmissions are stronger and the ride is comfortable/fast/handles amazing. It's actually faster than my Gallardo and costs less.

Consider Gen 3 Vipers. American Supercar, parts are better priced than Italian cars, and basic maintenance can be done at home.

Hey, I really like the price/performance of the 03-05 vipers but I refuse to do a convertible. The 06 plus in a coupe version are at the top of the list though. I have however seen lemke aftermarket hardtops for the 03-05 that do look nice.

My dad owns an '04 360... manual. No flappy paddle gearboxes in this family! It has Stradale wheels on it and Capristo exhaust. Sounds phenomenal.

Despite the fact that I feel like a colossal douche driving it, the car is a kick to drive. It really isn't terribly fast though. 400 hp used to be impressive; now it's pretty mediocre. IMO, there are much better cars, much faster cars at half the price... and they aren't "fra-gee-lay".

I liked his previous Aston Martin V8 Vantage much better.

Out of what you listed, I would look at the 360.

Have you ever thought about a 06-10 M5? Supercar performance in a sedan. Maintenance isn't too bad and you can get one for a decent price.

Egear, replaced the clutch once in the 3 years I've owned it but I don't drive it on weekdays.

Thanks, do you believe the gallardo is worth the extra 30k opposed to say a 2001 360?

Some earlier 360's had issues with the engine management computer. Watch out for leaky water pumps too.
