Not commenting on whether these cops done right or wrong, but your comment about shooting someone in the leg is dumb. Shooting someone in the leg, or shooting a weapon out of someone's hand is Hollywood nonsense. No one teaches "shoot-to-wound". You shoot until the threat is stopped. If that takes 1 bullet or 20 bullets, then you do what it takes to stop the threat. And if the guy is killed with 1 bullet or 5, what difference does it make? Dead is dead. They didn't make him any more dead with the extra 4 bullets.
Plus 1000 you never go into a situation thinking hey if I shoot his leg he'll stop, no. I'm not going to say the shooting was justified or not but I can guarantee everyone on this board would rather kill someone they see as a threat to their lives if push comes to shove.

What happens if that same guy broke into your house and was coming towards your wife and kid with the knife? Would you shoot him in the foot or break out a taser and shoot him with that?
Oh wait, Its only bad when a cop does it. Its only "too much" when a cop does it. Its only the most horrible thing in the world when a cop does it.

Think of it like this: You're sound asleep, your family in the home (kids and all) and someone breaks into your home. You have a loaded gun and a bat next to your bed. You don't know who the guy is, whether he is armed or not, but the MF'er had the audacity to break into your home. Are you going to wield your bat and ask the guy politely to get out or on the ground, knowing that your family depends on you to protect them?
Now if you're a cop and are entrusted to protect the public, and a person isn't yielding to your commands but threatens you in anyway you're damn right he's going to protect himself. I don't care who you are, don't disregard an officer's commands when he is pointing a gun at you.

Not sure how your statements are relevant to this situation. Cops are cops, not a sleeping citizen caught off guard by some random lunatic.
They had the guy out numbered. If he was holding a knife fine. Taze his ass once, twice, how many times it takes. If he dies from that then too bad.. He asked for it.. But being shot multiple times in close range for acting stupid in public yielding a knife is a bit extreme in my opinion.
By no means do I hate cops or think they're all pigs like others refer to them. I think the issue is there are a lot of cops out there that shouldn't be cops to begin with. Soft guys that did good in school and managed their way through the academy. These cops should of been brave enough to defuse the situation without having to shoot the guy. Taze his ass, pepper spray him, muscle his ass down, beat em with batons until he is subdued. I'm not a cop nor understand what it is to be one but I think it's common sense that this guy didn't NEED to be killed.
This is happening all too often in our communities now in days to ignore the fact there is an issue with our law enforcement process.

IMHO, this guy makes the most sense here. The police were holding all the cards in this video. Is there more to the video that isn't shown? This guy was backing away the whole time in the video. Did he ever charge them in an aggressive way? I didn't see it, but maybe there is more to this situation then just this video. The police here seemed to be taking the path of least resistance. Pull the gun, shoot. If the guy was holding a gun, different story. If he had some woman or child in a chock hold with a knife the their neck, different story. The guy seemed more scared then anything, in this video anyway. Seems to me there is a bit too much of this going on lately.

This was more so my point. I never said they were justified in killing the poor guy who at the time his worst crime may have been to be a drunkard on the streets. It was disheartening to see how they handled the situation and seeing a man lose his life but I'm no cop so I can't say 100% either way with certainty. My point was everyone jumping down and calling the officers worthless pieces of this and that.
I agree with muscling the drunk guy down, beat down, or use of pepper sprat. A gun should be the last plan of action IMO.

On the first page someone said he broke into a house armed with a knife, exposed himself to someone inside the home.
This guy wasn't just walking down the street looking for little old lady's to escort across the street.
Dude was most likely on something or needing a fix. I'd love to see his toxicology report to see what was in his system. It's a terrible situation but this kind of stuff happens all the time. It could have got real ugly if the guy ran toward a group of people and started stabbing them. Hell had the cops zapped the guy everyone would still be up in arms about it.

If you're told by officers to stop, lie down, put your hands on your head or behind your back, sit down, up against the wall... Whatever... If they are giving you orders for several minutes and you are uncooperative, you are presenting yourself as a threat. If you are uncooperative, you are putting doubt in the officers minds as to your intentions. Maybe you have a concealed weapon. Maybe you're a serial rapist and murderer. All the officer knows is you're unresponsive to verbal commands and being uncooperative. Everything else is a variable, and time is a factor in a situation that could become life or death the minute the suspect draws a weapon.
Officers are trained to shoot center mass. Center mass puts people down. Center mass ends the situation.

I think you got it wrong. There have been people that do just what the cops say, and still get beat to death. Innocent people getting beat to death. Cops killing people is reaching a all time high, while the death of cops is at a all time low. They need better training. Every person they meet aren't threats. You seem to think this is Mayberry, and the cops are Andy Griffith. What about the innocent father beat to death in front of his wife and daughter outside of the theater. I guess if he just laid down on the ground faster he wouldn't be dead. police forget that we are all innocent tell proven guilty. Thing called due process. Police are to quick to just jump to shots fired. They have this guy surrounded, he is walking a way from them at all times. the cops rushes up on him, then executes him as he turns to see what the cop is doing. The cops could of stood 15'ish feet gun at the ready, and waited for back up. But the do what they do. Run up on him and shoot him down in cold blood. When you have Police killing more people then have died in a war. You have a problem. They had all the time in the world to deal with this guy. They choose to execute him. The same day they killed him, cops in other states also killed 3 others. 4 people in a day...
