Just curious..what is the price at Frontier Ford? I drove up there on my motorcycle earlier this year and when I asked about an allocation for a new Shelby they just laughed me out of the showroom floor..didn't take me serious...must of been my power ranger leathers (Alpinestars) and they basically lost a sale because I had cash in hand. I know..I am in the middle of cleaning. All that stuff is cleaning/waxing stuff for the boat. It actually is a couple feet away from the front of the car, but I know what you mean. Time for a garage sale(my wife will appreciate it)!

20K markup? I am glad I got laughed out of there. I don't know how that is going to sell when the car can be purchased at MSRP... [ November 03, 2012, 12:58 AM: Message edited by: CobramanPhil ]

Sold with the 20K markup??? Wow!I guess for now the dealership has more leverage as getting a 2013 Shelby (last one Shelby himself had a hand in)is getting pretty difficult. There is a 2014 coming out..you would just have to get an allocation in early like (9 months ahead of time with a deposit). The one that you guys just sold..did it have the performance package, recaros..track pack..what were the options and was it sold to someone in California? To be honest it does suck that dealerships put a ADM on a vehicle that is MSRP around 65K with options. You might as well say the car is a $80K purchase which sort of defeats the whole mustang thing of getting s performance car at a reasonable price. If I had to pay that I would definitely include other cars in my search (thinking ZR1/Z06/new viper) because in the long run you are not going to feel a difference in sting price between a 80 to a 100K car (depends on how emotionally attached you are with the particular car).
In the long run it is not the dealership's fault for being greedy. It is the idiots that are willing to pay $20K markup that ruin it for everyone else. If nobody paid that...dealerships would not be marking them up..plain and simple.

I got my car in Seaside, but I heard that the ford dealership in Half Moon Bay was also selling at MSRP. Since we are talking private ownership I don't think they will be sharing much information on what their pricing is. I guess it depends on the dealership and what the situation is. I mean a $85K Shelby sells at Frontier, but that is a quick sale with no lingering benefits on selling future cars because consumers know that other dealerships are selling at MSRP. For the person that needs it like yesterday they are going to pay the markup. However smart consumers that do a little bit of research know that these cars can be had at MSRP by searching out of state or just doing their homework (it is called smart money spent). People that spend 65-70K out the door are people that are going to do repeat business at the same dealership because they know that they at least got a fair deal as compared to forking out an ADM (20K on a 65K car is ridiculous). Those are the same people that buy other cars after the Shelby just because of that good relationship which in the long term does make more money for the dealership. So two roads here...quick sale or fair sale with benefits of more purchases (with other future customer seeing the good deals and purchasing word of mouth).
