I've decided that being bored in Kansas isn't a good thing. I spend entirely too much time surfin' CL and the local forums looking for something to mess with. I guess that's what happens when the cars you have are "done" and idle downtime sets in. During my recent trips, I'd been thinking of another Coupe. Something simple, but will run 10's, completely streetable, and ALL accessories in place. I scored this 88 Coupe off CL for next to nothing. It came with everything minus the longblock...and I mean everything. TKO trans with a scattershield, T trim, Holley Systemax intake, full fuel system, etc etc. It's a two-owner car, NO rust, and looks pretty decent. My goal is under 3k for everything, including the price of the car...and a 10 sec time slip. The previous owner pulled the R block stroker for a 67 Fastback and the car has been sitting for nearly three years in a garage. He was getting out of the latemodel scene, so literally every extra part he had or kept over the past 15 years went with the car. Two trips later, everything was home. I've sold some parts, traded others, and whatnot...so the cost is staying down. Clean title, a shade over 90k on the car. Only minus the car has so far...red interior. Here's a few pics, enjoy... In the garage, day I picked it up. At home... The "new" motor. Standard bore 302, stock forged pistons, F cam, and GT40p heads with a lil massaging. Took 3 cans of oven cleaner for the block and heads. The price was right though, under $350 for the entire engine buildup...including parts! I'll keep it updated as I go.. I'd guess somewhere north of $1400 for the set. They aren't available anymore, as far as I know. They aren't for sale.

VERY basic. Stock pistons, rods, and crank. King rod/main bearings, Perfect Circle rings gapped a lil on the big side, F cam, and all ARP hardware (all new ARP stuff came with the car). GT40P heads I scored for literally nothing...traded a Trex pump and a set of old fuel rails for them. A lil clean up on the exhaust ports and a valve job done here. Should be good for about 285-295 NA and about 450-460 on the SC.

I'm hoping by the end of October. Just waiting on Summit for the gaskets, bearings, etc and a F cam from a board member who's shipping it out soon.

Yes, that's at the wheels. I know it's a lil lofty, but why not aim high?

I made good power with GT40p heads with just 12lbs of boost, whoever got mine is very lucky with all the work that was done with them. I just had one problem couldnt keep the heads on the block, too much cylinder pressure and there wasnt enough deck surface from the GT40p heads to stay on the block. You should easily run 10s with a T-trim and GT40p heads, I wouldnt go over 500RWHP with those heads unless you like doing head gaskets all the time. I made 508RWHP & 548RWTQ with 12lbs of boost and a C4. I like your budget build, funnier that way, I did the same with my Coupe, went 9s with $3000, now I am rebuilding it and spending way too much to get it back together.

I've heard about this Lee. Did you run a upgraded (thicker) centering dowel for the HG? Seems to help things out a lil bit. I do plan to keep it <500 though, no sense in setting it on "kill".

I have to ask though, what happened to the 86 notch? I was really looking forward to that build!

I got it to the point I was going to wire it up and was offered ALOT for the car as a roller. I pulled the engine/trans/wiring back out...sold it. It's currently getting a termi swap.
