People sign the warranty and don't realize they often only pay $75 per hour, don't pay for hazzard fees, fluids, and pay a decreases labor/warranty timeframe. The shop has a couple options, they can leave it alone and leave you liable for the difference or they can work for the warranty companies fee, or they can meet you in the middle and have you pay half the difference etc. Unfortunately if you read the fine print of the entire warranty info you'll see the labor time guide they use etc. But when people are financing a car they sign and go to the next page, happens ALL TOO OFTEN and leaves the shop working on the car to look like the bad guys often and have to spend hours on the telephone working with the warranty company on behalf of the policy holder.
I don't see the shop looking like the bad guy whatsoever. I knew before I took the car to the shop that it was going to be a fight to get all the coverage. I have read the warranty form a million times, & I see what is, & isn't covered. Basically, the warranty company was overlooking 1 major part of the repair, which was REMOVING THE ENGINE... This is the standard procedure when removing a cylinder head on a 4 valve...
Anyhow, I did get help from am member here on the board who works for all data. It does say that the job takes 8.0 hours to remove the head, but at the bottom of the page it also says "after engine removal", which would add many more hours to the job. With this info in my posession, I called the warranty company & explained it to them, & got them to raise the labor hours to 13.9....
These companies will try to get over on the customer in any way they can, but you just have to play hardball with them & do your research.... [ April 08, 2010, 09:59 PM: Message edited by: EPIK ]

I work for Ford and i just did a head gasket on a 03 cobra and it pays 13.7hrs customer pay. That was the left head. Warranty time tho is nowhere near this it pays WAYY less. I looked up a 03 mach 1 warranty labor opp for cylinder head gasket. I copied this strait from PTS web site. Like i said if you look here it doesnt pay much at all... it sucks Anyways hope this helps 8.8 sounds pretty good to me in my opinion, because i think most aftermarket warranty companys use warranty labor opps and if that is true then they are giving you a good amount of time on the labor. Good luck! i hope this helps some.

I used to do a lot of wrk for hundreds of car dealers and the bottom line is it's a way to get deeper in your pockets the third party warantys usualy cost the dealerships 750 so anything more than that the customers pays is profit for the salesmen and dealership, I used to hear storys from sales guys how they would make money off inhouse financing and bogus locktronics and waranties so always opt out of getting these type of add ons when purchasing a vehicle from a dealership. Even more when financing it cuz it will cost double in the end and more than the repair would actualy cost. Just an inside look at the things the dealerships do to make that extra money
