You are working on the hardest part - the paint finish. It can be very frustrating. That is the point where I gave up and decided to take it in and have it sprayed professionally.
But if you stay with it you can make it work. If you want to do a quick and dirty finish for the show, try a very light coat of paint thinned almost 50%.
Or find somebody who will polish it for you as a side job, that shouldn't be too expensive.

Besingyou thanks for the advice and it was good talking to you yesterday at the show. If you get time to pm me that info that would be awesome. I brought the car as is to the show, seeing as I just put the hood up. I had fun on this project and think I'll keep at the hood just for polishing experiance but would really like to get the whole car painted. Your elenor looked better in person than the photos. Sorry you couldn't get the vert.
