My brother is buying a 50th Anniversary Yellow R6, I was thinking of getting myself a graduation present and picking up the raven version but dont know if I want the same bike as him. I really like the new GSXR, the two are almost identical except the GSXR is claimed lighter and the R6 has the YCCT throttle by wire stuff, both have slippers, GP style exhaust and a 17.5K redline. What do you guys think I should get?

I hate the gsxr the head light are ugy if i got gsxr it would be 01-03 hands down way better looking. The new R6 on the other hand is sweat by friend got one head lights look way cooler. much better looking bike by far you won't regret the R6. The raven is bad ass

The new R6. The GSXR's have way too big gas tanks, heavey feeling front ends & every body has 1.

The R6 is a "lighter feeling" bike. It doesn't matter what the "paper work" says, you dont ride spec sheets

You really cant go wrong with either... but Ive always been a fan of the R6. It seems GSXRs are everywhere... maybe for good reason but the R6 is a badass as well.

+1 for the R6.

Yeah my brother and I had a Blue 01 R6 that was recently sold so he can get this
 -

I just am unsure if I should get the same bike as him just in a different color. [Roll Eyes]
I though maybe I should get a GSXR so we have most likely the top two contenders this year in the 600 class.

Get the GSXR. That was the first bike I ever heard you talk about. Keep it in the blood man cuz you can't really go wrong with it. Congratulations on the degree and tell Jessica that I'm very happy that she got into SSU.

I dont need a liter bike, I prefer 600's. Ive sat on the R6, felt like a 05 R1, really small and light, agressive stance, high seat. I really liked it, I havent got to sit an a GSXR since they were just released today officaly. Ill have to go check them out and decide, I got till December/January till they hit the dealerships anyway [Frown]

Well it depends on what you are going to do with the bike. If your riding on the street then either is good performance wise as you will never use half of the potential of the bike anyway. So it will just come down to personal preference on looks and feel. Which ones "looks" better to you would be your choice (costs too).

I'd say get either bike, just make sure that you have the proper gear (and attitude) and you can't go wrong with either. Just don't be surprised if you see a little ninja 250 (or ancient bike) scream by you if you ever decide to risk highway 9 with the rest of the squids [Wink] It's all about the rider you know [Wink]

I recommend the following in series:
MSF
Practice
MSF Advanced
Practice
CA Superbike School
Practice
Practice
Practice

BTW any of the currect 600 sportbikes have enough power and handling capabilities for 99.9% of the street riders out there and I have not met the .1% person yet.

I'm No expert but would say depending on rider anywhere from mid 10's to High 11's for the physically challenged. Mph should be in the upper 120's to low 130's. But I'm sure someone will come on with exact #'s. [Wink]

I have taken both my 1997 and 2003(both are 750's) to thunderhill. I like the track (favorite turn is turn 5), but it is not a "smooth" track compared to something like Laguna Seca or Sears(Infineon). I actually had my first crash at T-Hill. An Rc51 ran into my rear while I was leaned over into the turn (honda guy blew the corner and went straight into me [Roll Eyes] ). These are open track...and not competition...

I think a stock gsxr 750 did something like a 10.23, but that is with an above average rider (rides bikes 24/7 for a living in testing).
