Keep your chevy in a ford comments to yourself. Its just a motor. Grow up. [ March 01, 2012, 08:07 PM: Message edited by: ItzStock ]

lsx, extremely easy swap, more room in the engine bay, better gas milage, easier to work on, cheaper, more potential for power and reliability if going n/a....imo but i guess im a little biased

I prefer the DOHC Terminator...and thats the only thing Im familiar with...I dont know much about the LS platform. As far as parts, I think generally they may both reasonable...I hear a lot of people favor the LS...which ever one you decide on, keep us posted!!! Good luck with the build.

Lsx for the win, ancient technology? Not really. More like simple technology. Dohc has been around for a very long time. Old WW2 American tanks were powered by 1100 CID dohc gas engines.

Asking for a friend that wants to start his project. He still wants to street drive, pass smog, decent mileage and be able to find parts easy if he needs to.

Idk I personally think a cobra swap is ftw for sure. Full forged bottom ends take the stock blower put a 2.4 KB kick the motor in the balls and up shit will swang!
As for smog? Anybody passes in special shops

If I remember correctly you shouldn't have a problem with smog as long as the motor your putting in is more fuel efficient(emissions as well) than what came factory in the car( according to a smog teacher and a shop that builds older cars with newer motors.) But I may be wrong seeing as cali is strict when it comes to smog.

For cost versus performance, the LS series motor would be the best bang for the buck. My buddy has a bone stock, low mileage LS1 motor with an auto tranny in his 89 notch and runs high 11's at the track on slicks and he daily drives it.
Really.... for $1500-2000 you can find a complete LS1 swap. A little more for a LS2 or LS3. So you can't really beat the potential power for the price in comparison to a 03/04 cobra swap which will run significantly more in price.

LOL... You do know Peugeot and Alfa Romeo both had DOHC 4 valve grand prix engines in 1913-1914 right?

Swap in LS1 & T56, 30+ MPG. 300RWHP in stock form. Just a cam & intake swap away from 400rwhp powerband monster.

push rod engines have no real benefit over ohc engine. yes they are simpler, go for it if your into simple things. expect for gm and chrysler everyone has ditched ohv design.

depending on what your application of the car is, I'd say ls would be best bet for road racing and what not, it's far lighter than an 4.6 termi motor, parts are way cheaper for the chevy, but if your a purest than the termi is the only way to go, I had a bolt on cam'd camaro that ate termis up all the time, nothing beats the face of an old man getting smoked by what he thought was a v6 camaro (i had it debadged). plus it still got like 20-25 mpg on the freeway with 400rwhp.
