So...ive done all there is to do with a 302 and im bored now. Im looking to drop either an LS1 or Cobra swap in my 90' notchback. Any suggestions, specs, horror storys??? let me know what you guys think, cost is not an issue just practicality, power and reliability.
thanks
btw lets keep the clawing to a minimum ladies, if u dont like someones opinion, start your own thread about it

the answer is simple follow this guideline and all will be well:
If your gay and like men, put in a ls1.
If your not gay and like women, put a ford motor in a ford.

Dont listen to everyone else. if u wanna go fast, go with whatever you really want and is the cheapest to do. 347 w/n20, 03-04 cobra swap w/blower, Built LS2 or LS3 w/n20 would be my choices. all those are guaranteed 11 sec. set ups

Termi motor would be siiiick. My buddy lives in Texas and he says at a local once a month car show there, there is a dude with a turboed 03/04 cobra swapped notchback that is f**kin bad ass. So my vote for sure.

its actually a very common swap. alot of people put 5.3l in them too cuz u can find them for 500 bucks complete. im putting a 6.0 LS motor in a notch aswell. its very easy to have a 10 second notch if u put a ls1 or bigger into your notch op. just would need a cam and headers and a few minor things.

skip the mustang platform altogether.. a crazy idea ive been considering is picking up a 93 or 94 rx7 w/ an ls1 or better conversion.
light car with a pretty damn stout motor.

here is one from socal for under 12k. it needs some minor attention cosmetically and on smog to get it where id b happy. -------------------
-factory stock 15K mile 2002 F-body LS1 and T56 with CAGS delete and lowered fan activation temperatures done via HP Tuners. Factory programming is otherwise untouched.
-Hinson subframe mounts and bump steer correction
-2 ½” mandrel-bent true dual exhaust system using factory F-body cats, Edelbrock stainless mufflers
-3.90 rear end
-stock functioning power steering
-AFCO aluminum radiator
-SPAL 2360cfm puller fan
-custom made 4” cold air intake with K&N filter
-Aeromotive A1000-6 fuel pressure regulator with braided SS lines
-bin mounted battery, behind driver, 0 gauge cables
-Lokar throttle cable
-new pillow ball bushings
-the sale includes a replacement dash and glove box all in excellent condition to replace the gauge-relieved dash that you see in the pics
-sale includes a full set of Carbotech Bobcat brake pads, never installed
-all of the gauges and electronics work other than what is described below
In addition to the paint deficiencies noted above, here are some other items that I want to disclose:
-needs new tires
-speedo not connected
-A/C is not connected (I never installed a condenser after the swap), the LS1 still has the compressor installed
-missing rear divider and strut tower bar (I cannot find these items and I have looked everywhere???…assume they are missing). The driver’s side armrest lid is missing and the pillar post upholstery has been cut.
-ABS dash light is flashing, have never looked into this
-MIL is on – this is due to EVAP tank pressure sensor not being connected. I never deleted this code as I had intended to use all of the factory EVAP sensors. This is an easy code delete if one desires.
-the factory Mazda oil pressure sender has quit working (just like all the others…) since I first did the conversion. I have recently verified that the LS1 is running 50+ psi at idle via a mechanical gauge.
-the hatch is either from a non-touring car, or a previous owner ran a spoiler which I do not have
-the posts for the headlight pop up switch appear to have broken (see pic) on the backside of the dash surround. The headlights operate perfectly through the regular column switch.
-the car is NOT smog-legal in California and there is no BAR sticker. It is currently non-op’d and there are no fees due at the DMV. AFAIK, a single exhaust, EVAP tank pressure, AIR, stock air intake and a Corvette FPR are all that would be required to get through a BAR referee, but I haven’t really looked into this in greater detail.
In summary, this is a turn-key, running , driving car that is a plain Jane conversion with a low mileage drivetrain and a really nice exhaust system using factory cats which will make a smog-legal conversion easy to do, if one desires. The engine and transmission have never been seperated, I have literally never turned a bolt on the intake or exhaust manifolds, accessories, etc. Drive it as is, or build it as you see fit. I have disclosed the car’s condition, features and defects to the best of my knowledge. There are more than 60 pictures posted at http://www.flickr.com/photos/48294349@N05/sets/72157623602431508/. Price is $11,900. ========================
at that price i dont think u can find a better deal but the reality is you'd probably spend another 3-5k to finish it up which then makes is another "project" lol. ive talked myself out of this project many times already and have decided to pass for something either completed or that "other" car ive always wanted.
rx7's are about 2600lbs stock so w/ the ls1 maybe its +200lbs which will throw off the 50/50 weigh ratio. [ December 09, 2010, 11:04 AM: Message edited by: venomous99 ]
