I had the Smog done on my 95331StrimeVert. I’m very impressed with the smog numbers. This motor is currently running 16 degrees advance and making 470RWHP and 455RWTQ on a Mustang Dyno. I built this setup: Dart 331, 8.3:1 compression Diamond Pistons, Forged Eagle crank and H-Beam rods, 60lbs Injectors, TFS Heads, F303 cam retarded 4 degrees, Gt-40 upper and non-ported lower on 10lbs of S-Trim boost. All the smog stuff is there and I’m running the 4 Cat Magnaflow Tru-X pipe setup. All good.

Wait, so that means I could run a F303 cam in my fox? I always wanted to run a meaner cam than the E303 I have. Would that be legal to run?

* I went to a random test only station in Walnut Creek. * Yes, the F303 smogs no problem. Thanks for the comments.

I've been running and smogging the F cam in my 351 for 10+ years. The idle test had always been iffy, but ever since they got rid of the idle test and went to the rollers only, I've never even had to worry about it. In fact, if I ever do a rebuild, I'll be going with an even beefier cam

Yep, I agree. I will go bigger next time for sure. I think I left a lot of HP and TQ on the table going with the F303. As for Idle, this think idles smoother then my old e303.

You are lucky they did not check timing like they are supposed to, otherwise you would have failed.

Yeah I believe your only allowed 2 degree's either way. Thats the sign of a well built, well tuned car! Its good to see a thread about a car passing, congrat's man!

Timing is allowed to be -3 or +3 of base timing unless manufacturer specs say diff. I.e. Some Hondas say -2 or +2

On the mustang, its + or - 3 degrees.
I guess I read wrong. I thought he was trying to say 16 degrees base timing (which wouldn't make sense now that I think about it), not 16 total advance. Oops. [ February 15, 2010, 02:43 PM: Message edited by: username1822 ]

Nope, smog check inspection manual for BAR says -3/+3 as a standard unless manufacturer says otherwise
