I had the Smog done on my 95331StrimeVert. I’m very impressed with the smog numbers. This motor is currently running 16 degrees advance and making 470RWHP and 455RWTQ on a Mustang Dyno. I built this setup: Dart 331, 8.3:1 compression Diamond Pistons, Forged Eagle crank and H-Beam rods, 60lbs Injectors, TFS Heads, F303 cam retarded 4 degrees, Gt-40 upper and non-ported lower on 10lbs of S-Trim boost. All the smog stuff is there and I’m running the 4 Cat Magnaflow Tru-X pipe setup. All good.

Wait, so that means I could run a F303 cam in my fox? I always wanted to run a meaner cam than the E303 I have. Would that be legal to run? [Confused]

* I went to a random test only station in Walnut Creek.
* Yes, the F303 smogs no problem.
Thanks for the comments.

I've been running and smogging the F cam in my 351 for 10+ years. The idle test had always been iffy, but ever since they got rid of the idle test and went to the rollers only, I've never even had to worry about it. In fact, if I ever do a rebuild, I'll be going with an even beefier cam

Nice!

Yep, I agree. I will go bigger next time for sure. I think I left a lot of HP and TQ on the table going with the F303. As for Idle, this think idles smoother then my old e303.

Where did you grab those catts from? And do you have long tubes?

You are lucky they did not check timing like they are supposed to, otherwise you would have failed.

Yeah I believe your only allowed 2 degree's either way. Thats the sign of a well built, well tuned car! Its good to see a thread about a car passing, congrat's man!

but if i am read the right he didn't say total advanced is 16 degrees so if base 10 its -
+2 degrees

Timing is allowed to be -3 or +3 of base timing unless manufacturer specs say diff. I.e. Some Hondas say -2 or +2

Congratulations! Now fix the lawn and put the hose away... [Razz]

last time i check for smog bar says -2+2 of base timing

On the mustang, its + or - 3 degrees.

I guess I read wrong. I thought he was trying to say 16 degrees base timing (which wouldn't make sense now that I think about it), not 16 total advance. Oops.

It has been + - 3 for years this is not something new. Back in the dark ages when I was first doing smogs( I was liscensed for 15 years) it was retarded as much as you wanted. You should have seen some of the stuff I could get to pass lol. Of course you couldnt drive them off the lot.

Hello Stangers, Thanks for the words. Yes, I'm at 10 degrees base timing. My lawn isn't in the best shape. I sold the 71 vette:-( It's was too nice to keep. I was allways worried someone would door ding it.

A little aeration..seeds..perhaps some lawn green stuff and you should be good to go. The most important thing is to water that lawn consistently and often (trust me I have like three full sized lawns at my house and I thought "rain" would take care of it this time of year....NOT [Mad] Don't let it go too long or it is going to be hard to recover (might have to cut out that side section and put new sod in if you let it go any longer). Nice numbers on the smog. Now if I could only get my car to smog liker yours [Smile]

The reason is that your car look sooo good in the picture....then we see the lawn..just kidding [Razz] I will try to do a picture write up of the pipes I got from Magnaflow. Hopefully it will clear the MM rear suspension pieces (crossing fingers).

Hey Cobra Man,

Please be careful to closely inspect the inside of the pipes and welds. All for cats looking like this:
