My gf car is having some shifter issues. The car is a 2002 mustang and she can't shift it out of Park when it is turned on. You have to put it on the on position on the ignition then start it in neutral, then go to the gear you choose. So the shifter can not be moved from the Park position if it is turned on. Thanks

Brake light switch connector might have a broken wire at the connector itself, make sure the brake lights are coming on. Also, if soda has spilled down into the shifter, the interlock pieces can get sticky.
