My company is closing its California office that I am in, and offering to relocate me to one of its bigger corporate offices. There are 3 choices, Tampa Fl, Houston Tx, or Phoenix Az. Or I can take my severence. Which is only 3.5 months due to my time with the company. This isnt something I am looking forward to, at 39 years old. So, what would you do?

I think I would do either go to Arizona or Texas.

I hate moving, I would stay and find another company over the 3.5 months but if I were going to move it would be Texas.

I hate moving too. I worked super hard to get the house I am in now. I have experience in car sales, finance. I'm in an auto collections dept for a major bank. The final date for the closure is Aug 31st... subject to change based on the banks needs.

Sounds like you have plenty of time to secure a position at another company. Do some research as to what is available in your area. I personally, would stay. But if you choose to go, I would pick Texas.

Depends on how bad you want to stay here otherwise out of those choices I'd go to Texas.

Do you have a family? If you do, ask them and see what they want to do because when it comes down to it you want to make sure they are happy as well!

Sorry to hear about the situation.
Good Luck,

Out of all those places I'd go to Phoenix or Tampa, Houston is crime ridden and their weather sucks! Extremely humid.

Do you have a family? What I would do is move with the company, rent a room and look for a job back home. The issue is if you don't move, in this bad economy you don't know how long it will take you to find a job!

good luck

Keep in mind that you get unemployment income too which will help till you find a new job. You should start looking now though. Things are tough depending on the industry you're in. If I had to choose between those three spots I would pick FL. With all those theme parks, cruise lines and beaches it would make the vacations cheap and easy.

if you have zero options here, dont mind leaving the state and value your position there where its worth all that sacrifice by all means go for it. otherwise, find another job here. its a pain but do realize that companies are hiring and youll need to get a bit out of your comfort zone by doing some legwork to find some leads on another opportunity.

i wouldnt move out of state unless
1) the job was the right fit and job market outside of the company looks pretty damn good in that area.
2) the job paid significantly well and you see long term growth there
3) u didnt have any interests(personal, family, tc) to stay here and the positives starting a new life somewhere that is probably foreign to you outweighs the negatives

sounds like u made up your mind and youre looking for opinions to solidify your decision. there is a reason why ppl stay in cali...so fawk all that moving out shiet

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Sounds like you and your family are not in any way considering moving out of California.

With that said, there are plenty of good jobs out here, yes there also a lot of good candidates and it's very competitive but you need to make the first move. Don't wait till the last minute to apply ... You should have started yesterday.

My buddy went through the same situation last year... They offered him a position out of state or 6 months severance, he took the severance packet and found a job in 1 month!

Wish you the best of luck!
