Ok so I've been looking for some time now and believe I've found what I wanted.
Glock 22 .40 S&W

Want some feedback on what you guys think of it? Also any other options? It will be used for personal/ home defense.

Also I've found it for $500 online. Haven't been to a local shop yet but would it be cheaper? Thanks.

******* go to the second page for the update**********

I just talked to a gun dealer at the Reno Gun Show about a Glock .40. He has a CCW to carry a .40 and a Glock .45. He much prefers the 45 to the 40 because the 45 has way less recoil then the 40. I was a little shocked to hear this but he swears it's true. Less recoil in a light weight hand gun is a good thing.

I'd also go with the .45, I have a G21 & G30 and like them both better than my Sig P226 in .40. The price will probably stay the same between online and going to a shop.

Isn't ammo for a .40 a lot easier to come by than a .45? I have a .40 and have no issues buying ammo but my buddy has a hard time buying .45 ammo. Could be wrong though

When I was shopping for pistols I tried a few different models and ended up getting a Sig P226 .40. I liked how it felt in my hands compared to the Glock which felt too much like plastic to me.

Your going to pay $60+ for out state transfer fee to your local gun shop in additon to your DROS fee. It may be cheaper buying from your local gun store.

Shoot the weapon you are looking at first before buying.

I Also have one of these and it has been a great gun. Accurate as hell, never had a jam, FTF, or a stovepipe.

I've never carried it but wouldn't hesitate to, it's small enough it should conceal real nice.

With the type of safety that Glock uses I would only carry with a chambered round unless the person was very knowledgeable about gun safety i.e. NEVER put finger on trigger until firing!

glock 22 was my first firearm I ever purchased. I use it for home defense as well. If you plan of concealed carry, I suggest you get a compact 9mm. Smaller and lighter

Hands down one of the best weapons ever made, you will have zero issues with it, easy to maintain and anyone can use it.

Also the statement about recoil is correct I have carried a .40 Cal Glock for over a decade and the Glock 21 45ACP has less recoil however it's nothing to really worry about the 22 is a great gun and you'll be happy with it.

I believe Wild Sports in Sacramento has them for $489 or $499 so the price point is pretty right on.

Also and this is just my opinion, yes there are other great guns out there I have owned and fired pretty much everything but if you're worried about saving a couple bucks DON"T, yes you can get a S&W or a Springfield but there's a reason why years later all those companies are now featuring Glock type frames and parts on their guns it's because Glock is an outstanding gun.

And as far as loaded chamber, is there any other way to carry a weapon? Just use your head and train anyone in your family who may use the gun and you should be Good to Go.

^ My worry with a loaded chamber glock inside your pants is the chance of it going off while it's holstered. I know it's happened before to cops on and off duty.

If I was going to carry I'd honestly carry a revolver. Point and shoot, harder trigger pull, smaller, compact & IMHO more comfortable in a consealed holster.
