Whats up everyone. I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop and I was hoping the PC gurus in here could chime in and give me their opinions and suggestions on what brand of laptop to buy . So its gonna be either an HP, Toshiba, or Dell. Any big difference in these three manufacturers? I know you get what you pay for but is there anything good or bad I should know about either of these manufacturers? Thanks [patriot]

Damn I should sticky this advice.

Go with Dell Hands down.

go here:
http://www.notebookreview.com/dellCoupon.asp
Try to find a coupon for what you are looking for. You may have to try back a couple days in a row to find a good one.

Then go to dell.com and configure your laptop. Hit me by pm and I will send you what coupons I have from emails from then. You can combine deals at Dell.

Then call them directly and see if the salesperson can beat the deal you come up with.

I save a good 500-1k by doing it this way. And I buy laptops often for our office.

I would never spend more than $500 on a laptop. If all you're going to do is basic web and Microsoft Office stuff, go with a Dell.

if its not for heavy duty processing and main web use, id recommend a netbook around $250. i have one and it serves it purpose well having taken it on several trips.
its the perfect size and weight for carrying around unlike some of these multimedia laptops. if the screen is too small for home use you can always use the video out to your monitor of choice.

It's not on your list but my thinkpad t40 is a really stable machine. It's seven years old and still does what I need to run my small business.

HP sucks, and they fans are loud. Geek Squad protection is cool, if you have kids or are prone to drop stuff. Outside that the store/extended warranty should be cool. I did buy there Black Friday 3 PC deal last year though.

I say it's best to avoid Best Buy at all cost and their geek squad is more like a geek hack. I was at best buy a couple years ago and they told a customer that was in front of me that the computer is "fried" and needed a new one. I saw from my spot in line that the voltage switch on the back of the power supply was set to 220/230v and not the US/Japan standard of 110/115v.

If you want protection buy Dell's highest customer care warranty policy. I know for their enterprise/business they will come out the next day and sometimes even the same day for warranty. The warranty call center is actually in the US also.

Yup I have had the Dell dude out a couple of times. Their support is super on point these days.
