my pilot bearng is shot is there any speacial way to remove it without the speacial tool ive done it a couple times by chippin it out piece by piece but really dont like doin that

You can take a hammer and chisel to it or rent the slide hammer from O'rielly's and have it out in 5 minutes.

is there such thing as a high performance pilot bearing cus this is the third one that went out in less than 5000 miles and i hate keep takin my shit apart

pilot bearing shouldnt go out that fast unless you are messing it up during installation. or possibly a bad input shaft bearing in the trans? make sure you put some grease in it too..i think autozone charges $40 to rent the tool, then you get all of your money back when returned

yeah every time i put high temp bearing grease in it my buddy just said thats why they failed becuase they already come pre greased and if you put more it messes it upp sounds weird but maybe he's right so theres no such thing as a high performance pilot bearing and trans is almost brand new so i doubt its the tranny

Use a factory pilot bearing and do not grease it.

what I do is take a 3/8" extension you don't care about and a socket that fits good (fits good where the trans input shaft usually goes). take 1-2 sheets of paper tear that shit to shreds and soak it in water. then pack the old bearing with the soaked paper until you cant fit any more. now take that extension and socket and pound that shit in (with a hammer). keep adding more paper to fill the space the backing out bearing makes as it exits.(this method sound unconventional but it does work....well)
no chipping it apart and no special tools needed.

Wet paper works like a charm. Take some paper put it in a bucket in tear it in pieces. Smash it into the hole and when its full take a nut driver like 8mm and hammer the paper in. You will do it probably like 5 times and then you will see it slowly move out. Telling you sounds retarded but it works and is clean and.easy.

probably cant do this on a stand because it will block the pilot area.... it can be done with the engine still in the car (with transmission removed of course)

I thought I was retarded when I mashed water soaked paper into the hole, but now I know there's others that do it...so yes it works bc I used that technique. Now I own a pilot bearing removal tool

Bro best way is to buy a candle and jam it in the middle of pilot bearing and lil by lil add more taping it with a socket and hammer add more wax as needed and it should pop right out.

I have never greased up a pilot bearing and you shouldn't have to. Sounds like you're not alligning the clutch correctly. Make sure the allignment tool slides in and out freely without it catching on anything when reinstalling the clutch. Buy an OEM Ford pilot and throwout bearing when you reinstall the tranny for reassurance..

yeah i know the clutch is lined upp right tool slides in and out not catching on anything i think i put the wrong greese on it and made it wear premature

Assuming the transmission input shaft is not bent, the next thing to check is the bellhousing alignment. The transmission hole in the bellhousing needs to center as much as possible to the pilot bearing. I use a custom made tool (a feeler gauge stalk with a flywheel bolt welded to the end) but there may be some commercial gauges available. 5 mils or less out of center is very good. I'll play with it until it's 8 mils or less.
If it's really off there are such things are offset bellhousing pins. Remove the stock pins, install the offset pins and rotate them until the bellhousing is aligned within reason.
