Built and tuned by a person who knows what they are doing, and driven and maintained as it should be, yeah, a stock 351w block will last a while. Can anyone guarantee it? No. If you are worried about the thing breaking and taking your bottom end with it, then spend the extra 2k and get a FR, Dart or World block.

The myth that a stock block has some kind of horsepower sensor in it is ridiculous. Stock blocks can break at near stock power levels. It costs the same to machine and assemble an aftermarket 4-bolt main block as it does to prep a stock block.

Buy the best parts you can afford.

carb or efi? I've seen plenty of either induction method at or near 400hp to the wheels with a 2 bolt block that were very streetable. 450 is not uncommon either. It all depends on your purpose for the engine.

So true. Mine's been together since 05 and it's a stock block.

Your setup is what I had in mind, John. Give the same parts to someone else and when it stuff blows up, they say "damn, the stock block is only good to *** hp, and the urban legend grows.
