So I'm going to be looking at a friends 03 Cobra this weekend who is meticulous with his cars. They always live in a garage etc and I just detailed his GT500 last month. Prior he'd taken the black vert to a local business but when he got it back it had "SWIRL MARKS EVERYWHERE, THEY KILLED THE CAR" in his words. I haven't seen the car yet, and he's the type not to take it back to them ever, he wants me to see what I can do. I've gotten rid of mild swirl marks in the past and don't know what I'm getting into yet, but wanted to see other peoples known success step by step incase I need to venture out of the norm.
Thanks

For my Black '03 Cobra: (the key to all of this is time and patience)
I'll wash to get the surface junk off, 2nd wash with Dawn to degrease & remove any old wax.
Clay Bar & light wash/rinse
With my PC and a med/lite pad and poorboys swirl remover I'll go over the car untilI have what I want. Then with a soft pad & poorboys polish go over the car again.
Then if there is still daylight out, I'll go over by hand with Zaino Z5 and Zaino detail spray, to get the look I want.
If you want the shine to last longer then I'd use the Zaino system. Be warned you will have no arms left when your done... [ June 30, 2010, 03:48 PM: Message edited by: RAP66 ]

a good clay bar to get the grime off a good wash with car soap not dish soap and some very good 3m wax the process has to be done 3-5 time. everytime you wash you have to wax to get the swirls out use a microfiber wash mit to wash and remove the wax [ June 30, 2010, 04:53 PM: Message edited by: 73 on DUBS ]

If you dont have one, get one of those orbital buffers at walmart and some good buffing compound. Meguirers Mirror Glaze fine cut cleaner followed up with their polish/glaze should take them out. Make sure you have a spray bottle with water in it. You want to keep the surface wet while you buff so you dont get more swirl marks. Also a good wax to help cover them up at the final step is called "Liquid Glass". They sell it at Napa and some body shops. It's pricey but will last you a long time and you cant beat the results. The paint will look and feel brand new when done. [ July 01, 2010, 03:52 PM: Message edited by: Secnd2nun64 ]

Hand glaze baby boy. Put it on before u wax. Unless the swirls r that bad then u may need to rebuff it. I wouldn't buy a cheap buffer tho, get the dewalt or don't bother, but that's just me.

Spent $110 a few months back on an random orbital buffer from 3M but haven't used it on a black car. Any buffer on a black car scares me. I'm getting the car tomorrow night and have it until the owner's show he's going to Saturday morning so I'll have my time with it.
