If there is a leak in my AC system how do I go about finding the source of the leak?

What pressure should the bike tire type nipple give on the compressor when pushed in?

I can't recall the pressure reading but you can get some dye into the system to help track down the leak

dye into system..have anymore info on that? Will the dye in the system work if there is zero pressure in the system to move it? Sorry if that second question was really dumb.
