I just picked up a crate 302/345 HP to stick in the girlfriend's '65 Mustang. I want to keep the stock style fuel pump, meaning I have to stick the cam eccentric from the original 289 on the newer style engine. So, the question is this. On the old engine, there is a dowel keeping the eccentric from spinning. On the new engine, since it's set up for an electric fuel pump, there is no provision for it. Can I just torque the eccentric down and feel confident it will hold? How many pounds will it take? Or should I take off the new chain and gears and put a set up for a '65 on? Everybody says to stick an electric pump on there, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to. Thanks!

Dave

If I remember correctly since its been a while, my eccentric was a 2 piece type where one fit in the another. The smaller had a tab then went through the other piece and caught in a provision on the cam gear. A little loctite and a up to 45 lbs should suffice. But I wound up using a holley blue anyways. Hope that helped.

"up to" are the operative words.
