well have some cash to buy a 6 point role cage who should I go though I now I can get MM role cage of course it will be like 400 bucks

what othere opitions are their.
It needs to be legal for a like 10 second pass

also what are the runles if you run 9's
do I have to put a 8 point or 10 point

Why not get a custom one fabricated? The guy that made your intercooler makes awesome roll cages...(Robert at Fast track Performance) He is out in Socal though... Probably too far... Maybe APEX? Might be expensive though... Sorry not much help here... [burnout]

well custome? I could go that way but that would be alot of cash and i dont have much cash left
with x-mas just passing and all the money I have already put in the car

apex does not do it

does any one now who will also install a cage

I can do it my self I now and have a muffler shop weld the cage in but want to make sure its done right

Maeir Racing does nice work w/ custom cages. They would probably install one if you already have it but Im guessing they'll push you hard to get one custom made by them.

If I'm not mistaken the 11.00-11.99 rule is just a 4 point roll bar.

10.00-10.99 requires a full cage around the driver. What a PITA for a street car.

I picked up an autopower 6 point roll bar for a road course application with swingout doorbars. I figure the # of times I'm below 11.00 will be infrequent, and I doubt Sac would notice [Big Grin]

worst case, you can always upgrade your 6 to a cage with a couple of mild steel tube stock.

Go to Maier racing in Hayward. I think Harold was quoted 1,500 for a custom 6 point.
Did you see there white fox with a custom 6 point they had at our BBQ in NOV? They had low door bars, and it did not effect when you get in and out of the car.

You need a 6 point cage to go 11.99 - 10.00

Once you get into the 9's you are required to have a 8 point cage I believe. (Maybe more, not sure)

I would recomend a 5 or 6 point roll bar. If designed correctly it will be legal as fast as 10.00 in a hardtop. All of the 6 point roll bars I have seen come out of Maeir Racing would never pass "real" tech at a drag strip. The door bars are too low. You may get away with it at Sac but probably not Sears Point. You should instead have the door bars made at the proper height and have them be swingout/removable.

yea i was thinking of getting a 6point or 8 point with bolt in doors

something like what john has in his car

but wanted to now what the rules are as far as bolt in doors

First thing is that swing out door bars are legal down to 7.50, so if you want them, get them. Second is save yourself a lot of headache and get a prenotched Wolfe cage. If you want to be legal for 9's you need to get the full cage with forward bars that go through the dash. For 9's you also need to be able to attach your seat to the crossbar which probably means goodbye to your stock seat. The "kicker" bars from the main hoop need to go through the floor and attach directly to the subframe connectors. You also need a window net and an NHRA certification sticker (after NHRA inspection). That's about it.

hey i just got a gage from S&W racing for christmas. its an 8pt and i got the swing out bars with it. the tubes are all pre notched and the cages are certified and it only cost 260 for everything shipped and all. the cage alone is $149 so they're not very expensive

If I were considering actually going fast with the cage that you are putting in your car than the swing out sidebar option is legal but not the most safe thing out there. If you look at most race cars, they do not have that option. The structural integrity is defiantly debatable with those "show car bars" in them. In face, if you talk to Chassisworks or Art Morrision they will stray you away from buying that option.

There a lot more things to consider when you are putting a Cage in than just having Billy at the local muffler shop with his 110 volt sears special welder weld you up a cage.

If you really read the rules in the NHRA book you will know that the side bars actually have to be placed according to were you sit. The seat has to tie in to the cage and you have be sitting a certain distance below the top bars of the cage with your helmet on. And the subframes (according to our local NHRA tech) need to be 2 by 2 box frame type material. Before he even came out to look at my car he asked me that question. So, I had to change that because I didn't have that. The quality of welds make a big difference also. If its a Moly cage than it need to be Tig welded. But, mild steel does not.

These are some things that I can remember I had to go through to get my cage certified. You may think that this is all bullshit but being anal about this stuff could possibly save your life or the person you are racing!

Cage material in mild steel is around 300.00 $150 for the window net and setup and another 30.00 for roll bar padding.
Install, around $1000.00 to $1500.00

With only 400 bones I would save my money and do it right the first time!

You just might want to wait a bit longer and save up some more $$$ for a custom cage. If you need a good reason why take a look at a pic I think Teamsolo posted last year.

hey norman, who is this? what shop? I live in san mateo and i've been trying to figure out where to take my car for a real clean cage installation who actually knows the nhra rules and what will and will not certify.
