Hello everyone! A few here may remember my teal 93 Cobra (see it at http://93cobra.freeservers.com) and some of you may be interested in my most recent drag racing session at Sacramento raceway (Drew was driving, Shaun set up my cam):
Reaction: .740 60ft: 1.829 330ft: 5.112 1/8th: 7.792 @92.741mph 1/4: 12.020 @117.718mph

Nice combo. Got enough power adders? Or do you think 2( edit three!) will cut it? [ January 30, 2003, 01:40 PM: Message edited by: shade-tree ]

Hey Mark, this is Drew. How is the new motor working out for you? Coming to the track soon?
That is a cool video man. I wish I had something like that for one of my runs
Anyway, sorry about the head gasket. Hope to see ya back at the track soon, Later,Drew

Nice car! Please tell me you cut/pasted that list of mods.
Who did the tuning on you car? If you are running 14psi of boost it looks like you're down atleast 50-75rwhp judging by your MPH of 117.7. Has your car ever been on the dyno or tuned with a wideband? What is your total timing set at?

The shortblock was pretty much toast. LOTS of blowby. It also had quite a bit of valvefloat. I replaced the valvesprings later. What a job! The locks were hammered in the retainers due to the valvefloat. I ended up bending an ARP stud, but I replaced them all....just in case.

The new motor is GREAT! But I only put 200 miles on it so far, so it will be a while before I can get back to the track. I also want to dyno tune first. I'll post my numbers when I get em!
I had an opportunity to scrutinize my HGs. There was no breakage, they were basically "scrubbed". I could see where the surface material was rubbed off over a large area. This suggests heat expansion and contraction were different on the upper (aluminum) and lower (iron) contact surfaces. I had not retorqued my heads since I installed them in 2001. I'm told I should retorque them every year. The new block is studded, perhaps this will make it easier.
I'll definitely bring my video camera next time I get out there!

Yeah, I have a Word document to keep track of all my stuff. I keep a printout in the car so when people ask I can refer to my cheat sheet. I've got so much stuff it's hard to remember it all! I bought the car new from the dealer in 93 have have been modding it ever since.
I haven't been to the dyno for a long time, the last time was on the stock 302 block (before the 347 that's in there now) and on the stock cam. That was 390 rwhp and 425 tq. But those are old numbers. I'll post the new ones when I get them, after the new motor is broken in.
I was running 25 degrees total timing with the water/alky, I will probably drop that a couple degrees with the new motor. Possibly drop it a lot more than that, because my compression is probably quite high.
BTW I just ordered the australian te-wb wideband, but it uses the same O2 sensor as all the other diy-wb kits, and that sensor is no longer being manufactured, and you can't buy them anywhere, so getting that working could be a bit tricky.

Mark, how many wires come off the O2 sensor on that wideband? I've heard that the only true widebands have 4-5 wires. Turbomustang guys.....I can't remember why though.....

All widebands I have seen have 5 wires and the most common sensors are the NTK and the Bosch.

Thanks Jeff. I couldn't remember if it was 4 or 5 for the good ones. A few months ago someone on Turbomustangs posted a new wideband that had an unbeleiveable pricetag. Turned out it only had 4 wires on the sensor. No one bought it.

All the kits I've seen use the 5-wire ion-pumping NTK L1H1 sensor, Napa Echlin part number OS791. This is the one that's discontinued. I talked to the manufacturer and they are not currently planning to manufacture any more, they have retired that part number. In the future, they may decide to release a 5-wire sensor without a connector (just 5 loose wires) under a different part number.
BEWARE! The Bosch LSU4 sensor p/n 13246 will not work! [ January 31, 2003, 01:10 PM: Message edited by: BCINGUU ]
