Where is the best place to get a cheap helmet for sears point? I ran my car for the first time and they told me I need a helmet. I'm going again on the 14th. I am not into the used ebay thing, though. I checked with the shop at sears point they want 200 to 300, yikes.

I'm just looking for a basic helmet that is nhra approved, any ideas?

just go to any motorcycle shop and buy a helmet. make sure it's SNELL approved. I've seen them as cheap as $90

Get a Motorcycle helmet at Harley Davidson. You don't need a NHRA Helmet unless your racing in their races and your car is under a certain speed then you need a fire resistant helmet which will run you 800 or 900 bucks. Get a Snell 90+ and you'll be fine.

I think there is a difference b/w motorcycle and car helmets. Don't know for sure but: Both are Snell aproved; Car are fire proof, not sure about motorcycle; car usually has smaller visor slit; not sure what else. I don't know if they care if you use motorcycle helmet or not. I actually just bought one yesterday. Went to a bike shop first, and they said there was a difference and that I should get car helmet. Unded up buying one up at Wine Country Motorsports (Searspoint). Not cheap though- $325. You could get open face for cheaper, but I figure, if I'm going to invest that much, I might as well get full protection.

There are different Snell certifications for car and motorcycles.

SA (special application) Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences between them:
1. SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;
2. SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal);
3. SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.

What is required to run at Sears Point is up to Sears Point. I'm sure they list that somewhere on their web site.

according to the NHRA rulebook SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95, and K98 are approved for most classes.
