Went to the track today..didn't get to run much. Only 3 times..Now this may be a long post but I need all the help I can get.

My 1st run was pretty good because I beat anything I've run before but they still sucked..so here goes.

#1- 60 degrees outside, 20 psi in 26x10.5 in ET Streets, launching at 2500rpm and shifting at 6400 rpm into 2nd and third. Small burnout.

R/T... .866
60'.... 1.938
330.... 5.819
1/8.... 9.043
MPH.... 77.85
1000... 11.734
1/4.... 14.016
MPH.... 96.57

Now I met a guy there that was runnin a 98 cobra with the EXACT same mods and here is what he told me to do.." Drop the tire pressure to 11psi, Launch at 5000 rpm, and shift from 1st to 2nd at 5800rpm, and from 2nd to 3rd at 5400 rpm. Now I watched this dude run and rode with him one time and he was running consistant 13.27's/13.29's @ 101+ mph so I tried what he was doin..Well things got worse..

#2 63 degrees, 11psi, Launching at 3500 rpm, shifting at 6000 and 5500 rpm, good burnout and grinding 2nd gear!!

R/T.. 1.070
60'.. 1.996
330.. 5.948
1/8.. 9.178
MPH.. 77.05
1000 11.911
1/4.. 14.233
MPH.. 95.34

Spun bad off the line..

#3 58 degrees, 11 psi, Launching at 5000 rpm, shifting at 5800 and 5600 rpm, good burnout.

R/T... .988
60'... 2.201
330... 6.091
1/8... 9.268
MPH... 78.26
1000.. 11.963
1/4... 14.244
MPH... 96.78

Spun really bad off the line..

Any Ideas....obviously I'm still in the practice stage but everyone I talk to at the track tells me to do something totally different..I am just looking for a good starting point. Thanks and sorry for being so long!!

I think i can help a little with this one. First off, the thing that really stands out is the tire pressure. 11psi is WAY to low. I know this cause I have run ET streets at all types of pressure and you don't want to go below 14psi. My car hooked best at 16psi. I would not recomend launching at 5k too many times on a stock rear. It will break! But, that is the optimal RPM to launch a heavy ass snake with ET streets. So basiclly, be careful. You should be able to hit some 1.7 60's with those tires so don't give up.

As far as your shift points go. I'm not going to be much help, but I'm sure someone knows on here.....my lil 5.0 won't even think about reving to 6400 rpm, lol.

So we know where your missing MPH is at. You need to be shifting that thing at 6800-7000 RPM!!!

What was the matter with your launches? Spin or bog?

What track do you race at?

Brian,
Do you have any videos of you racing? Your mph is about 6-8 mph low. When did you change your plugs last?

just what ST5150 said.. i have ALOT of drag strip time on 96-98 cobras and you should NEVER shift anywhere near 5k ... shift right at 6800rpm EVERY SHIFT !!!!... and anything less then a 1.7 60-foot on those tires is horrible... if your MPH does not come up to 104-105mph something is wrong w/ your car.. stop racing it and find the problem !!!!

Plugs were changed about 11k-12k miles ago. I was racing at the Commerce track in Commerce, Ga...about 50 miles north of Atlanta. The highest MPH I have ever hit was like 99 mph and that was with my stock 3.27's...I think my prob today was the lack of tire pressure and the fact that I was shifting way too early. I'm going next weekend and will try to keep tire pressure at 16 and keep the revs at around 6800 when shifting and see where that leaves me!! I really appreciate everyones help...

poonstang, are you burning out in first gear? or 2nd? w/ 4.10's or higher.. you should really burn out in 2nd gear to get the wheels moving quicker..... just a little hint to get ya launching harder....

11 PSI isn't necessarily too low. Although hitting 1.9x 60's tells me something's probably wrong.

Looks like somebody already found your missing power in the shift point. Lucky you!! [Worship]
