2nd gen lexus GS (1999-2006 I think). We have a 2000 GS300 with 201k miles on it, and the thing still rides smooth as hell, & runs great! Everything still works, AC is cold, Paint still shines & leather has zero rips, & trust me my GF isn't the best at cosmetically taking care of cars. In the last 3 years & 70k miles we've had it, only parts that have failed were the radiator needed replacement & the ball joints went out. Best, most reliable car I've ever owned.
Despite me trying to convince her to keep it, unfortunately it may go up for sale soon, because you know all women always want nice, new, & shiny things to keep them happy, & it will be below your price range actually. Don't let the mileage scare you, these things are known to go 300k miles & more with proper maintenance, and i've made sure that was always on point. PM me if you want info bro. Like others have said, 1998 - 2002 LEXUS GS400/430. They are virtually bulletproof, I had one from 95k - 165k and didn't do any repairs besides preventive maint. I swapped to a SC300 differential with 4.5X gearing, intake + ecu tune and it was definately quicker than a few cars. Stock form they are about as fast as a stock 96-98 cobra, with just a diff. swap, It went 13.1 @ 101 at Sac on 20" BBS LM2's and my Ex Girlfriend behind the wheel. After Intake + Tune and some sticky tires, I would bet it could see 12.8/12.9.
At the top of your price range, 1999 - 2003 Jaguar XJR's. They are supecharged V8, 5 Speed Auto taken from the E55 AMG and an independent rear suspension make it an awesome car all around. The standard pulley, intake, exhausat combo wakes them up like expected for a supercharged car. [ 2015-08-13, 09:02 AM: Message edited by: Egocentric ]

Nothing better in your price range than the Lexus GS. Super reliable, super comfy, still look nice and not dated, and decent on gas too.

A daily driver can be anything within $5-6k...but its up to you to define what a "good DD" is for your purpose.
If you want to be cool, get yourself a clean sn95 or new edge mustang. Looks cool, but doesn't save gas.
If you want to be economical, get a civic or corolla. Cheap to buy and decent on gas.
If you want to be smart, get a hybrid. It doesn't have any cool factor, nor is it the cheapest of the lineup, but it definitely saves you a ton of money on gas.

Mostly looking for 4 door cars. Another mustang I don't want to get, I already have 3 of them. The gs400 is growing on me. As For gas mileage as long as it's better than 15mpg I'm happy, the gs models seem to be reliable from reviews along with the g35 and other Lexus models. Just trying to narrow down my options so when I'm ready I know exactly what to shoot for.

Yeah was also looking into one of those. Toyota/Lexus seem to have good ratings and confertable.

Trust me, the Lexus reliability is real, no hype! I've owned the GS300 since 2012, and it's been trouble free for 70k likes, all from 130k-201k (which is when shit starts to break or give you problems)... This car has been amazing, not a single hiccup or issue other then the radiator and ball joints crapping out, but at that mileage, it's expected. Trust me, you can't go wrong, I have real world experience 😎

01-03 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. 4 Door 280 Hp out the box super comfy. Can probably find one with less then 100K miles for 4-5K. Gets great gas mileage.

My Ford escort has been killing it at the track. Slow as hell but runs like a champ. I can park it anywhere and not worry about it LOL.
I don't really care too much about looks and comfort for a DD. Just give me some AC and be reliable and that's enough for me.
