Anyone no here own one? If so what do you think about them?

From what I understand they are a pulley and tune away from being a low 11 4 door sedan.

The supercharged ones are sick, only reason why I'd rather have an m5 is because you can get a 6m. Id get one if you can get a good deal.

Awesome cars, I have a few family members who own Amg's. When I was in the market for an e55 I couldn't find one with low-miles. I ended up with a different Mercedes. I still wouldn't mind owning one down the road.

Badass cars, but I hope you have deep pockets when it comes time to do maintenance on it. Even oil changes are over $100.

It's funny people say parts are expensive and so on. Well if u could work on them Finding parts cheap it's not an issue. I think anything can be expensive like freaking Toyota trucks and there famous catalyst converter going for for then 1000 in a dealership

Mmmmm... Sorta. I love German cars and have owned quite a few, but the one thing I've learned, is buy OEM replacement parts. You are just throwing money away buying aftermarket stuff because it NEVER fits or works like an OEM part. If you can replace it yourself, you're already ahead of the game, but parts themselves are not cheap. I love AMG's and would love to own one, but it would kill me on maintenance. My BMW 528i is a run of the mill car and parts are like 3 times as expensive as the Mustang. I can only imagine what AMG parts would cost.

I own a e60 5-series also and the maintainence is not bad at all. I'd say it's only 15-20% more than your average American car. I've seen E55 AMGs hit low 12s with basic bolt ons and a tune (many shops can tune them).

Eric -- let me know when you get one, I'll come and check it out. I'm thinking of upgrading to AMG also, they are bad ass!

My buddy has one of those. He hasn't ever taken it to the track though. For a BIG *SS family car, if freakin' RIPS!! Headers and pulleys are the only upgrades. Wish he'd take it to the strip just to see what it could do. I'd guess ET would suck due to traction (street trim assumed) but it would mph pretty good.

Maintenance is definitely more than 15% - 20% over domestic cars. Been there done that.

My DD is a twin turbo N54 based 335i BMW. And yes they are no different than most cars to work on but I gotta say, parts are grip!!!! $1300 for a break job, $1400 for a water pump ( cheapest price I found for the electric water pump was over $700 online for parts only) the other issue with these cars is that they need the $75k computer the dealer has to re-program every change you make on the car. For example, something as simple as swapping out an old battery for a new one needs to be coded in by the dealer to prevent a potential over charging situation. That's a $100.00 visit after you already purchased the $300 battery and installed it yourself. So to put it in a nutshell, maintenance and upkeep is expensive even if you do your own work. But I must admit, my 335 will run circles around most mustangs out there, including my own Cobra and it will do it while achieving 29mpg with 4 doors and 2 baby seats. Definitely fun cars, if your willing to deal with the expense of maintenance that E55 is a very nice car!

Are you considering maintenance only fluids and filters or actual replacing of parts? Because I can tell you, I've never spent $70 for a thermostat on any American car I've ever owned. Or $30 for a single wiper blade. Or $160 for a key. Or had to buy a special tool for almost every job on the car.
