quote: That would be phenomenal if you alter SFPDs policy, and get the tow yard to own up...
Beside it unlikely from happening, there's no real justification to make the change.
A tow yard, auto repair shop, dealership needs to provide reasonable security of your car. Whether the keys are in the car in a gated lot and a security guard, the keys are on the wall in a locked office or the keys are in the car and the car is inside a locked building, it doesn't matter. The insurance company for the tow yard, repair shop, dealership are probably the ones who sets the rules for 'reasonable security' in order for the shop owner to get insurance coverage.
I haven't been through this but I would expect my insurance company to cover the loss of the car under comprehensive insurance. If I didn't have comp on the car then I would be stuck suing the shop in small claims court for the value of the car. I would include court/filing costs and the cost of renting a car until you get your money.

I have FULL COVERAGE ON ALL MY CARS, due to the lurking thieves, the tow yard wants to settle but I'm thinkin of starting really really high due to pain and suffering, the cost of the car, all the aftermarket shit I have receipts for, my rental car. That's just to start especially since this just hit the news plus it's airing again tonite!!!! So I'm going to try and make this a statement, DON'T FUCK WITH THE FORD COMMUNITY!!!

Why did they tow the car again? Definitely make them pay so they think twice about towing a car again.

Get them good, shut that tow yard down. That car had sentimental value, hit them high and let them settle in between.
Glad this was on the news

Sounds like the tow yard wants to deal with you direct to keep their insurance company out of it.
You can try the pain & suffering, mental anguish, sentimental value angle but don't get your hopes up too high. At the very least you should get the insured value of the car, the cost of any replacement transportation (like a rental car) and any costs to collect the money (court costs).
Maybe the tow yard is willing to pay a bit more to keep this loss off their insurance claims but only they know how much extra if any, they would be willing to pay.
My bet is if you don't go through your insurance company and let yours and his insurance companies battle it out, or you don't settle directly with the tow yard, the tow yard will wait for you to take it to small claims court so they still keep it out of their insurance claims. They'll admit they owe you for the loss of the car and offer a low amount. Of course you'll argue for a higher amount and then the judge gets to decide how much.
If a car is worth more to you than book value, get it insured for the higher amount (like a stated value policy). [ 2013-05-01, 09:11 AM: Message edited by: SteveL ]

Its purely a long shot, but if the car does have sentimental value then the damage could possibly be fixed. Although I doubt it would be cheap.

Many people want the cheapest insurance they can get so they don't do what you noted. Then when a wreck happens and they are offered the 2k for the amount of vehicle they were paying to insure their thong goes straight up their ass!

I had farmers, and additional insurance, they Fukd me with no grease, only gave me 4500 after fees and would cover non of the add one even tho I was insured for it and had the receipts, so fuk farmers I'm gettin AAA NOW, since I have a good driving record my premium is only $92 a month for 2 cars full coverage and that's including tow additional equipment. Same as farmers was charging me

$4,500 seems high for an 86. I'm VERY SORRY about the car and the connection you had with your ex, but I think you were paid off well.
Also, look at the situations you put yourself in. One stupid brawl has effects that roll down hill. Had you gotten in your car and drove away life would be way different right now. You never know what can trickle down hill from one choice, remember this one time.
Goodluck man

Brawl was overrated more like we got jumped but came out victorious!!! And if you had seen the car in person $4500 was an insult!!! I've seen 86s half as clean got for 5-6k. Not including all the aftermarket parts, car audio equipment alarm and personal belongings they are suppose to cover. I was not part of the initial fight I jumped in after they were jumpin my boys, so I'm my defense it was SELF DEFENSE!!!

$4,500 sounds like a "good insult" to me for your car. Unless it had crazy suspension, built and blown motor etc, it's a sentimental car that was a clean 86. Just saying, it was avoidable. Goodluck man [ 2013-05-01, 04:20 PM: Message edited by: hidnn.o.s. ]

Avoidable? In some sense yes but life threw me a curve ball I Swang and missed, so $4500 is still a slap in the face, my buddy gets $8k for a pos 88 convert wen it was stolen all stock, but I had we'll over 3k in receipts, they only gave me $300 for all the aftermarket equipment that was installed over the last 2 years, that's what I'm callin bs! But thanks for the concern bro
