Ya, san jo is quite a ways for scotch tasting, unless we were able to get a few guys with some quality bottles together. Ive had gold before, but this centenary blend is much more complex. Has a little more smoke/charred oak flavor. Still very smooth and easy to drink. I've gotten so used to drinking scotch that I dont even get burn anymore even from the cheaper stuff, so I catch all the flavors. Pretty amazing actually. So far my only scotch tasting buddy is in Vacaville, his father in law is from napa and comes over once in awhile.

Man oh man! I didn't know what I was in for with this older release of JW Gold. This one is from the early 2000's and much better than what they're making now

It's a mellow kind of peat though. I really like it. If you didn't like this one then definitely stay away from Bowmore it's much more in your face peatiness. Granted that's comparing a 16 Year Lagavulin to a 12 Year Bowmore

Drinking Scotch is far too expensive for alcoholism. That would be like becoming a smoker with expensive cigars, not very common I would guess

Ya, u have to buy bottles often, but once you spend $100+!on a bottle you'll likely spend a lot more time enjoying it rather than just drinking it up

Thanks, as with anything it just takes time. Been over two years since I bought my first scotch. Even longer for bourbon. Would be awesome to find some local guys to do some scotch tasting with. My only scotch tasting buddy lives over 50 miles away, so it makes tastings somewhat difficult

My only experience with rye based whiskey has been wild turkey rye. It's good, but not as good as it's corn based counter part

Rye isn't for everyone as far as me the only Rye I drink is Vodka. Had a gtg recently and tried some Macallan 12, Macallan Cask Strength and Glenmorangie The Original. I will definitely say I am enjoying the Macallans right now. I'm still stuck on Buffalo Trace as far as bourbon goes tried some Eagle Rare and didn't care for it.

Ya, it's hard to wrong with Macallan scotch. No matter if it's directly from them or am independent bottling I've always enjoyed every Macallan I've tasted
