Just wondering what u guys are using. I was looking at picking up a used Nikon D40 from a co-worker for $300. Do ya'll think thats a good buy or should i buy something like a p500. Looking to get an entry level SLR camera.
Not looking to spend $700 on a camera.

I had a d40 for about a year. I bought it used from a buddy for $350 (came with an external flash, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, and 50mm lenses). I think its an awesome camera for the price but you'll want to get a better lense than the stock 18-55mm. I'd recommend getting the 35mm prime or at least an 18-55mm VR.
I currently have a D3100 and love it! It's a step up from the D40 and has HD video capabilities with full-time AF. It also has a wider range of options... I recommend it! [ July 05, 2011, 05:08 PM: Message edited by: SydeWaySix ]

Spend most of your budget on a lens that will suit your focal range and then spend the rest of it on a camera body.

lens is more important than body.
I've been really happy with my canon xsi.
