Just seeing if anyone here does any kind of investing? I was looking into it, but I dont know how things work, and I know with times like these, I am unsure its even the best idea. I don't have much money to invest, about 2gs, which will probably get laughs being its such a small amount. But I was hoping theres someone on here that may be able to put in the right direction. Hopefully before I blow this extra cash on parts lol. Thanks!

Mike,
Stock market is the place to be, I started about 6 month ago and man it has been amazing. Yes the market is kind of scary but overall I'm happy with my portfolio and the profit I have make.
2K is a great start to buy stocks, but your first lesson is to diversify your portfolio (basically don't put all your money in one company). This way if one stock goes down, you have others to even the loss.
Here are some good stock (these are some stocks that I own, please do your own research on them)
EW - little expansive but they have a product at the FDA, when it gets approved, it will go through the roof
NVE - Nevada Energy
CVS -
F - FORD :-)
Good luck and Pm me if you need help setting up an account and getting started.

Big mistake, First facebook is not going to do much more, its like buying Dell or Microsoft. Second if you have 5K to invest you need to diversify your funds, that way if one stock goes down, than you have other stock to make profit or recover the loss.
Good luck

Call up a financial advisor, spend like 30 minutes listening to their pitch and see if they have some good ideas about investment strategies. There are a bunch of places out there, Edward Jones, Schwab, Merril Lynch, JP Morgan.

I'd definitely get some stock if you're looking to invest. I'm not really into the stock market, nor do I follow it, but I do have stocks for the company I work at. I only put a very small percentage of my check into buying stocks, but my money has almost doubled in about a year...

you can start learning here: http://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/
it's play money, but it's setup almost like the real deal once you do actual stock trading. there's lots of tips and info that you can read for days. learn the terminologies and keep up with current news/trends. see how you do with play money before jumping in.
i use scottrade.com b/c it's cheap to buy/sell and it's geared more towards the average stock trader. for what it's worth, since the japan disaster happened, my portfolio took a slight dip.
number one rule to remember, buy low sell high . lol. it's never that easy, but it's fun and challenging.

to buy a stock it cost from 5-8 dollars. To sell that stock it cost 5-8 dollars. So you already lost 10-16 dollars on that stock.
I would call Wellsfargo (or even your own bank) and see what kind of deal they will give you. Wells fargo has a deal that if you have 20K in their bank, you can buy and sell 100 shares for free! Also if you have a home loan with them they count 25% of the loan towards that 20K. Its great being able to buy and sell stocks for free!

I am not a pro, but from what I see from friends who are involved is it is very very time consuming. They play with a lot more than 2k, but the amount of money earned vs times spent had me scratching my head a little bit. I think if they invested that time into their jobs they could make even more from Overtime etc. One other good place to check out is our company stock plan Mike. You can buy at 15% below the lowest price for the quarter and sell whenever. You are fully vested right away. Yes you will pay tax penalties but for the most part it is guaranteed free money you are paying taxes on. I know an employee that has been doing this for 5 years, and only lost money once. Take a class on how to invest. Asking on a car website is already a bad start.

I would just stick it into a mutual funds unless you want to gamble and research. Some people just enjoy it. Realistically for pocket money and fun 2k is enough but if you want a secondary source of income you'd need more like 20k to start.

if u have no clue as to what you're doing w/ the stock market which can be extremely volatile i suggest u put the money into an ira for your retirement. the risk can be managed quite easily since you're investing on a fund that contains several different types of stock w/ various risk levels and you're sure to make money on your investment over time.
playing with 2k in the stock market w/out knowing what you're doing is a recipe for disaster. if you are passionate about learning and diong the research u can make some good money trading but is this really what you're interested in?
