alienware is overpriced and overrated.
overrated? when i got mine, my friend purchased the TOP OF THE LINE dell (a yr ago), we benchmarked em....i toasted his machine. my benchmarks went through the roof. and if you open the machines up, youll see that a dell is completely packed and very little room for ventilation. but on a HIGHEND machine, youll notice a complete difference in that area. but ya, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. im a designer, so i need the power machine.....
don't really wanna get into an argument, but comparing a dell to an alienware isn't the greatest comparison. anyways, for 2/3 the price or even less of a given alienware, one can easily build his or her own machine that's just as good, if not better. unlike before, today oem's offer no real advantage other than offering a pre-built system. anything and everything they use (minus their cases and other proprietary stuff) can be purchased at fry's, newegg, zzf, etc. for much less. and when you see alienware's benchmarking higher than other comparable oem's, its honestly all in the setup, not the hardware. and this superior ventilation and cooling and what not they claim to have, is easily achievable by any average joe.
oh ya! totally bro. ive been building my own systems for years, but it was time to one already built, with everything that i wanted, and completely graphic optimized...with warranty haha ive had it almost 1yr 6months, and fast as shit. AMD FX-55 Processor 2GB ram, 300GB ATA HD, ATI X800 Platinum 256MB video Card, bla bla bla. love it... [ May 03, 2006, 06:27 PM: Message edited by: Mach0ne351 ]
