just wondering (maybe ricidulous) but what does a turbo sound like on an SBF dumped straight out of the downpipe, no mufflers? i have always heard that a turbo acts somewhat as a muffler

Thats about right for BigBoy's turn around on motors. Bring a car in wanting a motor, and BAM 4-6months later you'll probably have a motor, but still needing to be installed!

For what its worth, I had Sheldon @ BigBoyRacing do my subframe connectors. He is a certified welder and did a great job. I would recommend him.
Both Spec Fab and Sheldon do good metal work from my experience.

Perhaps times have changed since I have dealt with Sheldon, granted, he is a cool mo fo. But for turn around time and what kinda HP he says a motor is going to make and comes far from it while on the dyno! Do it right the 1st time and go with Drew and Shaun at AED!!! they dont waste time, done right 1st time, and straight up with you!

I had Sheldon do my heads/cam and other miscellaneous stuff and it was quality work I think everyone gets impatient(especially if it is your dd) at times when your baby is in the shop and you want your stuff back like yesterday, but I much rather have someone go over the engine 2, 3, or perhaps even 4 or 5 times over to make sure things are perfect. Thats the difference between quality and a "rush...get to the next customer..half ass job".

He had my car for around 4 almost 5 months to build a motor. Then when he "made it up to me" with doing my tranny/stall converter, that took about 6weeks!
Im the same way when it comes to quality work, in fact may be a little too anal about things, but having someones car for nearly 7 months to build a motor and rebuild a tranny ....Plain ridiculous, then charging me a fuckin arm and a leg. I was also told my car was going to be sponsered by Big Boy Racing, to make my 98GT run 12's all motor. The best that car did was 13.8's @ 98mph WHILE backfiring down the strip!

I think in any situation in which major work is being planned (ie replacement motor) at any shop it is alway wise to set up your expectations with the people that are doing the work. Stuff like cost and amount of time should always be the first questions asked. There shouldn't be any surprises. BBR is not the only mustang shop in the area and I bet if you take a poll of any shop that builds motors you will find customers that were kind of p/o because they didn't get their car back when they wanted it or it ended up costing a bit more then expected.
I don't know...to me a big shop with lots of customers packed with an overhead of mechanics is a recipe for something to be missed (bad quality). BBR is like a one or two guy show so it will probably take a little more time with them, but you get good work done. [ March 07, 2007, 03:22 PM: Message edited by: CobramanPhil ]
