Can an Autometer Pro Comp style gas gauge be used with a stock tank & sending unit? [ February 08, 2009, 12:38 AM: Message edited by: Notch1320 ]

I can be wrong, But I dont see why not. All the gauge reads is a voltage right? The higher the floater is the more voltage it sends?

Gauge reads OHMS, not voltage.
The fuel sender resistance should be 145 ohms at full mark 22.5 ohms at empty mark, per the Chiltons. I took at look at Autometer and didn't see anything that would match up correctly as a plug and play. You may want to drop Autometer a e-mail and see what their input is.

What are the Ohms on a 87-93 fuel sender... I should be able to swap senders and run the #5416 gauge.

When I bought my Autometer setup, I had a choice of which ohm range I wanted the guage to work with. I read somewhere in the back of their catalog that 79-86 and 87-93 had different ohm ranges. I am sure that Autometer offers a guage that will work with the stock sender.

You can use the autometer with the stock sending unit. You just need to do the setup when you install it, the directions tell you what you need to do or you can call the tech support line.
16ohms empty. 158ohms full. Info from their tech support page [ February 08, 2009, 04:48 PM: Message edited by: hard jokur ]

Autometer sells a fuel gauge that works with the Mustang stock sender. I used a phantom elect. gauge and it worked perfect. I can try to dig up what ohm is needed.
