I just got done swapping a 331 into my 85. I Put the motor that came out of the 85 into the 87. Hooked it all up all the connections, hoses, ect. got the distributor to TDC. Tryed to start it and i got one pop out of it. then nothing again. the 87 has been sitting in my driveway for a year and a half. hasn't been running. the motor that i just put in it has 10,000 miles on it. its getting spark, and getting gas. i pulled the plug and it smelled like gas. Is there a computer reset switch? i dont know anything about fuel injection so any info would help. Thanks

Are you getting spark? I would also double check your timing.

What firing order do you have hooked up? If its not a roller motor then you have to use the older firing order. Supposedly only 86 and newer have the windsor firing order but my brother's 84 has the windsor firing order.

it should start with a slightly wrong firing order
are you sure the distributor isnt 180* out

I am possitive about it being at TDC. It is also a roller motor. I bought it new not to long ago. it has 10,000 miles on it. Could it be the gas? whatever was left was bad? if so should i unplug the fuel line and run some of the fuel out?

180 out? If that was the case it would pop more than once. He said it only popped once. 180 out would be nasty poppin!! But who knows maybe it is!!!
If its not 180 then it does sound like you have a firing order issue. You can rule out fuel by measuring fuel pressure and making sure that its correct. Test spark and make sure its still good. Get a damn timing light and make sure timing is correct. If you pulled the plug and it smells like gas then you have the wrong firing order (timing fucked up) or your not getting spark.

If it's getting spark and getting gas, you have a timing issue. Did you pull the #1 plug and check TDC that way or did you rotate it over to TDC and stab the dizzy?

Yea the two throttle body gaskets were switched. one had holes one didn't. the one without hole was put in the place that needed holes. so the motor couldn't breath. Thats what the shop said was wrong. Thanks for all the help anyway guys.
