I'm putting together a blower motor. So far I have box stock AFR 185 61cc heads, trick flow box upper intake, accufab tb etc, and s-trim with 14 psi pullies. I need to pick out a cam and have heard that a stock cam is good for blowers but I just need some other opinions to think about. What do you think will work best? Thanks

Is this on a stock bottem end? You'll really be taxing the stock block with the kind of power you'll be making. If you want fairly good drivability, check out the TFS stage 2 cam. If you want something more, check out the Comp Cam Extreme Series cams.

Starting out with a newly freshened up block and going from there.

A TFS-2 cam will be plenty for a stock block and 14 lbs of boost. Get some 50 lbs injectors, 255 high pressure intank pump+ 255 lph inline pump and you should be set for a ~500 rwhp street beast

Go with a custom cam, it will make more power in the end and will be exactly suited for your motor. Check out FTI (flowtech induction)

Smogable or not?
TFS stage 2 would work but will not pass smog. XE274 would work even better, but again, will not pass smog. TFS stage 1 retarded a few degrees WILL pass smog & will make some damn good power when boosted. Crane 2030 & 2031 (again retarded a few degrees) will also make good power boosted & be a bit milder then the TFS 1. Then there's always the FMS line. The X303 for all-out smogable power & the B303 for a little less. Both retarded a few degrees. Hell, they all should be retarded a few degrees....especailly with AFR's.
For max power FTI is the way to go....smogable or not, but any of the above cams will make enough power to split the stock block with AFR185's & 14lbs of boost.

I wasn't gonna mention it, but since you brought it up..... have never heard of a TFS-2 / Anderson B4 camed car not passing smog around here. [ January 19, 2004, 11:59 PM: Message edited by: st5150 ]

Yes, & others have gotten much bigger cams to pass the sniffer too. I go off the general rule of thumb that I have always gone with. For the average streetcar (not owned by a Smog Tech) you want to stay with a cam that has 1 degree of overlap at .050 or less. This is safe & just about EVERY cam that has this amount of overlap or less WILL pass the sniffer when tuned.

FYI the car was not owned by a smog tech. but buy your average mustang guy. There are other factors that affect the sniffer. IF you know how to tune you will be amazed at what will pass. did you get you pms yet??. How about the datalogging stuff??? [ January 20, 2004, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: jmcclesk ]

The TFS2 has 4 degrees of overlap at .050. As does the XE274, but has MUCH more aggressive lobes & is a better all-around cam IMO. Either way, I don't tell people these are smog cams. Although I have no doubt they can 'pass' on occuasion. Hell, I've seen guys pass without cats. But I wouldn't try that while smoging my car either.
I have not bought the PMS yet. I have to make sure I can afford it. The Wideband should be here today & I'll play with that for a few days....tuning Heather's car & leaning out mine to pass a smog test that is past due. The Wideband datalogs up to 5 different inputs. I'm going to try to hook it up to some PMS outputs for datalogging before buying $350 worth of software.
When will you be out at the track with a new project? Looks like your record will FINALLY be broken here soon.

You guys have been talking about that for what 16 months now. When you break it then tell me untill then i am TIRED of hearing it. Will you be breaking it or will it be drew driving your car . Makes me wonder what drew would do in my car. I am still busy doing side work and selling cars. I want to buy a larger house soon one with a 3 car garage. Someday i will be out there again. No offence to you I just find it funny people are asking you for smog advice and the other day you were having a hard time with egr and air pump questions. ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif) [ January 20, 2004, 12:30 PM: Message edited by: jmcclesk ]

Blah, blah, blah, Drew this, Drew that. IT'S NOT MY CAR EITHER! Heather owns 91PONY, not me! Last time I checked most of the world record 1/4 mile holders are NOT owned AND driven by the same person. Who cares who drives it. The point is it did the time. It's up to the owner of the car to let whomever they wish drive it. Heather chose Drew...not me. & I've only been talking about (& aiming for) breaking your record since September.
I sometimes get hung-up on smog issues & you on cam/valvetrain issues. Big deal. We can all learn a GREAT deal from each other. Nobody knows everything there is to know about these cars....not even close. That's why I'm here....to learn as much as I can (from you & others) & help out when I can. Oh....& prove my point at the track instead of the internet arguing of the past.
Talk is cheap! Build it, race it & prove your point! ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif)

What ever, I have proved my point over and over. A record is a record no matter who is driving (I wish I could drive like drew) . When HAVE i ever made a mistake on valve train issues. I think i asked you one valve spring question and that was a second opion. I dont think i have ever made a valvetrain blunder, like your air pump/egr thing. As far as the record goes I have heard you say several times that the 11.92 will fall any day now and that has been going on for over a YEAR. Are you calling me a lier???? think hard about that. You are right IT will fall i am just pointing out that it has taken a lot longer than you or had thought. Is that talk is cheap statement pointed at me Mark and i were out the last wensday nite of the year and went all the way to the finals in our second time out in that car AND we went .3 faster that the old owner ever did.
