hello all.
it is time for me a get another mod. i want something new in the stang. i would like either headers or 3.73 gears, and i am not sure which to get.
if i get headers i want to still stay smog legal, and still use the parts that are on my exaust system now. that is my flows and my vrs x-pipe. i am not sure if that is possible. can you please give me your suggestions and feedback? thankx for ur time.

Getting headers will be cheaper but gears will defnatley be more benefical. You will notice the gears a lot more than the headers.

Get gears! Note that the total cost of gears and install will be around $400...unless you find them used.

do u have a stick or auto? if u have an auto get the headers just because gears arent fun unless you have a stall but if u have a stick go get gears but me personally i would 4.10s since they cost the same and i rarely drive on the highway any other mods? otherwise i say save up your money for something else? I have an auto without a stall and gears are fun as hell. Headers did absolutley nothing for my car that I could feel anyways. Gears actually made my auto move quicker after I got rid of those 2.73's which most of them came with.

gears nothing lower than 373's I have 355 and am ready for something higher. Don't get me wrong I love my 355's and could feel the difference like night and day!
I already had fms shorties on my car when I bought it...but I think I would have gone headers first before gears. Mainly because of cost reasons.
When I bought my car the first things I bought were 76mm maf and gears

Gears are one of the best bangs for bucks...
Shortie headers on a stock heads and cam 302 will not do much(5-7hp)...When I installed my headers I was disapointed...If you already have an X pipe I dont think that the exhaust is too restrictive (yet)...
GEARS! .....

If you are serious about this car, then get the gears. BUT, you should wait unit you have about $500 more.
Then get a better diff. I think a 31 spline Auborn is about $300, 31 spline axles are $100 or so then another $100 for bearings and such. The benefit of doing it all at once is labor should cost about the same to do it all or just the gears. If you have the parts done seperatly it would cost about $1000 more and you would still have 28 spline axles.
Any way, get the gears....

Shortys or Equal Length Headers on the 94 up's don't really do to much for performance. You gotta go with the LT's!!!

Get the gears. You wont even feel a difference if you get the headers.

so far with u i have:
vrs catted x-pipe 87mm c&l mass air mac cold air kit from fender to the throttle body 70mm polished throttle body 3.5 inch exaust tips flow master venom super chip um... it think that is it.
now that everyone said gears i will go get 3.73's. i drive my car everyday somewhere, so i dont really wanna go wit 4.10's. i like puttin my car in 4th on the freeway and takin off, i can still do that with 3.73's. right?

lol. i thought that 3.90's are not good for the freeway. and the 87mm mass air meter tube i guess it is called. its like a silver peice that is about 6 inches long. it is between my cold air kit. i installed all this stuff, just knowin it would make a difference and it did. the mass air might be a 80mm. but i am pretty sure it is 87mm made by c&l.

Your mass air meter needs to be calibrated for the size injectors you have. For example, I have a 75mm mass air and it is calibrated for my 24# injectors.

hello,
i understand that. when i got the 87mm mass air, it was used. so i had to order the little tube for my 19 injectors. will bigger injectors help? will it use more gass. i still need help on which gears to get? i think i will get 3.73 since i drive all the time, and race on the freeway. where is a good place inthe bay area to buy gears and get them installed?

I guess I don't understand why you have such a huge mass air meter.
I went from 2:73 gears to 3:73 gears and it was a huge difference. You'll like it.
