I have a '95 gt with heads, cam, intake, 24lb. injectors, 190lph. fuel pump, and it pings alot, even worse in hot weather. Besides timing what else could be causing it to ping? Thanks.

try an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and set it between 42-44psi with the vacuum hose off

a fuel regulator would probably do the trick. but it also could be running too hot, maybe some water wetter or low temp thromostat

The number one cause of pinging is too much timing advance for your combo What is your base timing set at?

I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, set at 39.
And I haven't checked the timing lately but it should be set at 13.

Get a custom chip burned. That byron chip made wonders on my 95 GT after the heads, cam, intake, etc. install. My car would ping like crazy, and after I took it to apex my shit ran cherry

I don't think it is running too hot, I have a fluidyne radiator, and th gauge is usually between the "N" and the "O"

set your timing to 10* and see if it still happens.
if that doesnt work... to increase fp, tighten the adjuster on top of the regulator. try 1/4 turn and see if it helps.

Octane? I also read in 5.0 that some cars just ping and there isn't really a cure. [ September 09, 2002, 05:07 PM: Message edited by: sskiller ]

Is the adjuster the screw? When I turn that it doesn't do anything, the fuel pressure doesn't change.

a malfunctioning EGR system can also cause pinging. A custom chip will solve your problem tohugh since it will remove advance only from the part of the RPM band where you're pinging.

Then just lower your base timing until you get your new motor. Simple yet effective fix

I'll try that. Is there a way I can do it without a timing light?

This may be way out of line.. but have you cleaned your mass air flow sensor ? It took MONTHS of troubleshooting my 95 GT to find what was causing the pinging and coughing.. I replaced the sensor, and it was incredible, like Jeykle & Hyde. Now I clean mine about every 6 months. Alcohol and a Q-Tip.. gently.

I had another question. I was trying to get the fuel pressure up and the only time it went up is when I took the vacuum hose off. What does the vacuum hose do?

Oh, BTW, the car still pings with the higher fuel pressure. I am going to set back the timing when I change the plugs. And after that I am getting full MSD.
