I dont know if it is normal but when the weather is even nice out the heat from down under is pretty bad on the driver side in the summer it really sucks. I'm going to put some of the heat foil shit under there but since its been cold out I havent really noticed.

did you re-install the rubber boot on the shifter? It can get quite toasty in the engine compartment/shifter handle without it!

I wouldn't run synthetic ATF in a T5. The manual calls for DEX III ATF.If your T5 isn't making any noises, shifts fine and the tranny level is full, I wouldn't worry about it.

dont put synchromesh in it.Use Redline ATF ALSO Long trips in 5th will make the box a little hotter. You are going from a 1 to 1 to a 1 to .68 or .62 or .59 or .82 dependig on which T-5 you have and it has NO cooler on it so a little heat build up is gonna happen.

"they" say synthic tranny fluid is too slick and doesn't allow your syncro's to slow down fast enough. Lots of T5's have made it with a ton of miles on the regular DEX III stuff just fine. Personally, I don't believe in any special magical fluids.

I have a T-5 that survived many 10.50 passes and is still running strong after mucho miles. It has had redline ATF all its life. Food for thought. If you dont want to use synth. then go with a quality ATF.

I had a 91'GT 5.0 (T-5) and just sold my 96' Saleen (T-45), both of which had five speeds. In my 91' GT I could always feel the heat from the tranny, especially on hot days. I could also feel it in the Saleen but not as much at the 91' GT. Just some input.

I think, and most of the techs I work with say redline ATF is better than regular ATF, they also mentioned another oil that works better than redline, but the conversation was a long time ago, and the oil is more expensive than rediline.

the only time mine ever got real hot, was when the fluid was broke down....try doing a flush, and adding more fluid...
