Okay I just bought a 89 5.0 Mustang. Put a new Magnaflow X pipe on it. Went together great other than having to modify the hanger a bit. Started it up, have an exhaust leak. Sound like its coming from the exhaust manifold. Checked and there were 3 bolts missing from the manifold. Was able to seat all but the second to last closest to the firewall. Not sure if it is stripped can't really get the bold started. Any tips or help. Self tapping bolts?
Thanks in advance

you might have to loosen up the rest of the headers bolts to get that last one started. the holes probaly arent lined up.

Switch with a bolt from one of the other cylinders. Threads May be in better condition.

Thanks. I bought new allen bolts much easier to get in. I will loosen the other bolts and try the other solution. I hope its not stripped. If it is do I have any options? Besides tearing the motor down.

Buy and use a thread cleaner/chaser. Most likely its fine. How long is the length of the header bolts you are installing?

You sure the last one does not have a bolt broke off in the head?

Got it in after loosening the others. Still have one sounds like a exhaust leak but can't find it.

maybe theres a leak where the xpipe meets the headers, make sure the flanges are even on both sides.

Probably is. When I installed MAC headers, which they say are direct bolt on..ha, ya right....I had to have my H-pipe modified just a bit. It was coming in at the wrong angle on the drivers side. [ February 08, 2012, 01:05 AM: Message edited by: Marks93 ]

I will check again, I need to get this thing smogged today. The leak is minor. Hoping it will pass before pulling the exhause off again.
