I know you guys have seen this car around. Funny little car, but fast for sure. It is a Ford, so I figured the vid belongs on here for sure.

You must live close to me then too. I'm over off of Madison and I 80 and have seen him around here. I raced him in my SRT4 at the track and beat him good. Raced him in my stang prior to the supercharger and he beat me by about a car. Hope to see him again soon in the Stang with the charger on

I've seen him at the track many many times. The 12.97 was the fastest run I've ever seen this car do. He mostly stays in the low 13's. Last time I talked to him he claimed his new best was a 12.8, but I've never seen it go that fast.

Yeah I don't doubt that at all. He has it completely gutted. There's no way I could drive around like that. I like my a/c, heater and less road noise.

lol... thats my car...i got the interior back in so its a lil over 2000lbs. best run is a 12.732@109.993 on some 205/50/15 toyo RA1 tires. i was able to bog it enough to hook off the line but i still have no traction in boost til mid 3rd gear. i need slicks...
the motor is a 1995 ford escort GT with a homemade turbo manifold and a mitsu big 16G turbo. i do have megasquirt stand alone but its only street tuned cause dyno time is expensive. [ November 21, 2011, 08:28 PM: Message edited by: fastivab6tg25mr ]

Sweet. Why don't you get some slicks for that thing man? If you were able to get down to the 1.7/1.8 second 60' range you could put down some seriously low 12's. I'm not even wasting my time taking my 5.0 out to the track without drag radials and/or slicks because I'm in the same boat no traction until 3rd gear and I'm on 245 45 17 BFG's. Only reason I bring my SRT-4 out there is because I have a 2 step that helps me launch really consistently. On 215 45 17 500 tread wear street tires I put down 2.0 60' times almost every time.

its not the 60' that kills me... its the zero traction in 2nd and spinning the first 1k rpm of 3rd... and slicks are expensive... ive been told that i should go high 11's or 12.0 on full fwd drag slicks. fastest on festiva forum is 12.1 and he is puttin down low 200's to the wheels and im expecting around 260-300whp. ive ran my buddies car that hit a 12.1 from a freeway roll and i consistently pulled a car on him by 5th gear.

I like being optimistic too, but even with slicks getting down to 1.7 60' times is going to be a heck of a challenge because of the FWD platform. To go high 11's you'll probably need more than just slicks to gain even more traction. Since your car is really light you will likely earn .2 for every .1 off of your 60' time, so if you somehow could get a 1.7 60' that would put you around 12.1/12.2 range. Obviously not impossible to get into 11's, but not an easy task in a FWD platform car. I know all about the severe limitations of the FWD platform from my experience and the experience of my buddies. If it were RWD 1.5 60' times could be had a lot easier and 11's would be much easier to reach. That's why instead of trying to go 11's in my SRT-4 I'm building my 5.0 to go 11's as a daily driver... maybe even 10's if I get crazy with the build. As much as I love freeway runs they're not a very good indicator of track times at all. Perfect example I raced this crazy sounding WRX STI 4 times. 2 times from a roll and 2 times from a stop in my SRT-4. Both times from a roll I put several car lengths on him. Both times from a stop he put several cars on my until about 95mph when I caught up and started passing him, so we would likely run pretty similar 1/4 mile times, but freeway runs I would leave him in the dust without any problem, so if he said he ran 12.5's and we only ran on the freeway I might be inclined to believe I would run better then that, but that isn't the case. This is especially true if you're racing RWD cars, or AWD cars, or cars with a lot more torque than horsepower because they cover the most important part of the track in less time which is the 1st half. Another example... My best time so far in my SRT-4 has been 12.8@113 with a 2.06 60' on street tires roughly 3000lbs, 1/8th mile in 8.504 seconds. My best time in my old 5.0 GT was 12.23@110 with a 2.1 second 60' on street tires roughly 3400lbs, but the 1/8th was covered in only 8.101 seconds

Your 60' time is the absolute most important number on your timeslip, so it is killing you more than anything else. Slicks would also give you traction through 2nd and 3rd no problem, but most importantly is the first 60'. The 60' time improvements will yield more results than improving any other number on your timeslip from what I've seen. Someone told me this and I didn't believe them, so they told me to let off the gas at the 1000', so I did. I wound up running a 13.2@97mph when I was running 12.9-13.1's@113/114 mph every other run that day. I was blown away with how little difference the top end made, but if I would have ran a 2.5 second 60' time and been balls to the wall, WOT shifted and did everything else absolutely perfect I still would run like a 14.4@110 [ November 21, 2011, 09:20 PM: Message edited by: FivePTSlow ]

Your 60' is I1 at Sac raceway. Looks like you hit a 2.088 on your best run thus far which is pretty respectable for a FWD on small street tires for sure. Adding slicks is always interesting since you get traction you cover distances faster, but your car may feel slower because you won't have as high of a trap speed due to the better traction [ November 21, 2011, 09:36 PM: Message edited by: FivePTSlow ]

What I wound up doing was analyzing my pile of time slips. This also lead me to the opinion that the 60' makes or breaks your 1/4 mile. All of my best runs have been a result of the best 60' time. No other time improvement made much of a difference.

Here's a good short article about 60' times to give you a good perspective on the 60' time in relation to overall 1/4 mile

Every horsepower calculator I have ran with the specs you gave puts your car around 200whp. If you had 300whp in that little thing you would be trapping a lot more than 110mph especially weighing in around 2000lbs. My SRT is right in the 300whp range 3000lbs and I trap 113/114 consistently.
