Hello, I just built a 289 for my 67 Cougar. I was wondering if anyone had a guestimate on how much horse power I would make.
The parts in my build are:
289 .30 over forged flat top pistons Edelbrock 7122 RPM Performer Cam Edelbrock RPM AirGap Intake Quick Fuel 600 CFM Carb GT40 Ported heads Scorpion 1.6 Roller Rockers Pertronix Distributor Long Tube Headers Manton Pushrods Edelbrock fuel pump Melling high vol oil pump 3.55 gears C4 transmision with shift kit - poss T5 swap Dual exaust straight back w flow masters 2 1/2 inch pipes [ 2018-12-05, 05:59 PM: Message edited by: Nef ]

Just the engine or to the wheels?

The Shelby GT350 289 made a legit 306hp and that was with poor flowing heads. I looked up the HiPo 289 cam specs and the valve events are almost identical to the 7122, but the 7122 has a bit more lift. But the GT350 also made that power with a 715cfm carb and 10.5 compression (it had small 52cc chambers). I'm going to assume you're probably in the 9.5 compression range with the 60cc chambers of the GT40 heads. I think all in, you're probably going to be in the 340hp range at the crank. With the C4, that would probably put you around 272hp at the wheels.
