2000-2006 Nissan Sentras are decent commuters. You can find them in the $3000-$4000 range in good shape. I've had my 2006 for a couple years now, it has 197k miles on it and everything is original except the battery. Still runs like new. I get an average of 35 MPG according to the gauge. I use a 2002 Lexus ES300. Simple, good on gas, boring as hell but gets me where I am going without any hiccups. I;m thinking about selling it actually if you are interested.
