Won big at Sundance. I know this hits close to home for a lot of us. What are your thoughts?

Typical Hollywood for ya. Make a movie about a convicted felon & paint the picture he was a good guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They are going to gloss over the fact that he was in the wrong to begin with....... And on top of that had drugs on him. ( Not weed BTW. )

It's sad Hollywood will make a movie glorifying Oscar Grant, but won't consider making a movie about the 4 officers killed in Oakland a few short months after this tragic event took place.
[BS flag]

I'm not trying to start a big ass debate over this........ But I'm tired of the media putting their spin on bad shit that happens. The Trayvon Martin shooting was another perfect example of the media glorifying/defending his tragic death before all the facts came out.

Rant Over.

that was my first thought as well. It seems they made him into a perfect angel with a loving family etc. now i don't know the entire story or intimate details but i can see this as being very shewed in his favor and against police.

Based on a true story.
But twisted like 50 thousand times.

Looks like a good movie tho, besides the incorrectness of it.

First, regardless of any other details in this case, Oscar didn't deserves to get shot in the back while getting physically detained by police. Given that this happened, the uproar by the public is expected and justified.

Next, of course there is a human side to Oscar Grant. He was a son and father who had his struggles, like many of us. I have no issue with the movie depicting that human side.

However, hopefully the movie doesn't hide the fact that he was a convicted felon, in drug possession, and a history with law enforcement.

Based on the previews, it looks like the movie paints the physical altercation on the train as being initiated by someone else, presumably due to some ugly past history with that person.

I struggle with this one since I see both sides of the argument. The BART cop made a terrible unexcusable mistake. But at the same time, this sort of thing is far more likely to happen to trouble-makers than those abiding by laws, and Oscar's past leads me to believe that he wasn't on a good path. Oscar, Johannes, and everyone else involved lost that that night.

Lastly, I would also like to see a smiliar movie made from the perspective of Johannes Mehserle.

+1 don't be idiots.. the fact that this guy had made bad decisions in the past doesn't justify his murder. That cop had no reason to even withdraw his weapon in the first place. That fucker should have been charged with murder mistake or not. BART shouldn't even be allowed to have their own "police". They should use regular officers and have to pay the city for their time. Movie looks good though..

So because he was a felon and had drugs on him he deserved to get shot in the back while handcuffed? [Roll Eyes] Yeah maybe they should have made a movie about the cop that "accidentally " shot him. If the murder had not been caught on video I guarantee that the killer would have said Oscar was reaching for a gun on his waist.

Video recordings from the incident showed Pirone acting aggressively as soon as he arrived on the platform. He was recorded grabbing one of Grant's friends by the hair and later, punching Grant. Pirone also was recorded yelling racial epithets at Grant.

Uh, he was charged with murder. First degree murder in fact. The jury instead found him guilty of involuntary manslaughter (the correct charge for accidentally killing someone through gross negligence).

I love how my original post doesn't state that, " I believe he deserved to get shot." But is automatically assumed as such because I mention that Oscar Grant IS being portrayed in this movie as being a great guy, family man, down on his luck.......

I've never stated that Oscar Grant had it coming or that he deserve to be killed. I've always said I feel bad for both Family's involved in this horrific " Accidental " shooting of Oscar Grant. So please don't try and make me out to be some cold hearted person because I disagree with the narrative being presented in this film.

Completely agree with the fact that they portray him and some upstanding citizen when he was so far from that. He was just about to change his life though, forgot to add that. If society continues with this kind of bullshit the real citizens the people who are doing good and what they are suppossed to do in life will revolt, maybe not in my lifetime but it will eventually happen.

i do not like the idea of it at all. it should only take a half hour to explain the whole thing. not 90 minutes. there is gonna be a lot of fluff in the movie.
