That was the auto trans your thinking of and it was the regular Taurus. Those things were dog shit, so were the Windstar vans (Taurus with a van body on it) and most of the 80's and 90's throw away cars. The 5 speeds tend to hold up fairly well. I know I've seen quite a few 90's SHO's at Pick N Pull with no body damage though so could have engine problems later in life.

My dad had one..silver. We "convinced" him to get a nitrous kit (he did). It was a blast to drive. It definitely didn't handle like a sports car, but it surprised a few cars with a 125hp shot. Later my dad got the itch and actually had a vortech put on by some shop in Santa Maria. Car was definitely fun..beat lot of stockish mustangs back in the days. He still drives it and it has almost 200k+ miles with no problems (he maintains and services it himself so that has to be the reason for the good condition it is in).

heres a 92 for dirt cheap
Craigslist
They are a blast to drive but parts if something breaks are going to be pricey. And if that motor goes good luck finding a replacement.
But hey for 750 bucks i would pick it up
